Pages 105-107 of the GH1 manual explain the different resolutions and frame rates. In AVCHD mode, only the FHD setting gives full 1920x1080 24p "film" look. All other AVCHD modes are 60p. And all MPEG modes are 30p. Just for my purposes, I find the "SH" mode to be most versatile. A lot of acronyms, but hopefully this helps.
Great question. My semi-informed non-scientific answer is that this was shot at 720 60p. The lens was also pretty much open so the shutter speed was actually around 500. That's my current guess until I find out more. I would also welcome comments regarding rolling shutter or any of the other quirks that seem to plague DSLR video. Yeah, I know, the GH1 is not technically a DSLR, but for the sake of classification with still cameras that shoot good video, we'll call it that for now if thats OK.
What do you think of the video quality? We see the compressed video via youtube, but as someone who is planning on getting a GH1 very soon, I'd love to know what you think of the video on your end. I was pretty impressed with what I saw here, compressed or not!
I am continually impressed. Super sharp, and shallow depth of field with the right lens. Might be other factors and I'll have to do more tests. But I am noticing the image begins to darken on the sensor after 20 minutes or so of continuous recording. Be interested to see if others have experienced same.
Thanks for your comment. Actually, I don't think the encoding does it justice. I may have to do a little research to see if there is a better codec for Youtube. I spent $1299 on this camera and another $399 for the wide aperture f/1.7 pancake lens. I also purchased a Panasonic HMC-150 for $3300 about the same time. Except for audio, I prefer the GH1 for overall beauty and certainly for depth of field. Thinking about selling my HMC-150 with 3 hours of use and making this my primary video camera.
this nat sound caught by the cams mic?

The video looks great. I have seen folks get that "film" look but I haven't figured it out yet myself. How do you set it to 720p 60?

very nice but the shutter speed being so high kills the filmic look a bit. Is this with the kit lens or wide lens?

This camera has a CMOS sensor correct? How come I don't see the infamous CMOS "rolling shutter" effect when panning?

You can see the rolling shutter effect on the buildings in the background at 1:00 in this clip - they skew. Still it's an impressive camera.

Thank you for pointing that out. I had not noticed it before now.

gh1 is a lot more like a camcorder than camera, share many similar feature.

The rolling shutter effect is there - just look at the skew of the buildings in the background at 1:00.

Amazing detail. Clearly a step above Superzooms like the Canon SX/Panasonic FZ, etc.
Now I wish I hadn't seen this coz I may have to spend $1000 more than I wanted for a Micro 4/3rds camera.
