  • I love Marvin, but why is it sooo many of our great musical geniuses are TORMENTED!!! Like M.J. This man was way ahead of his time, and I blame his sperm donor for causing soo much of the pain that drove Marvin to such darkness! There will never be another.

  • This video takes me back to younger days. And, more than that: I am still so fascinated by Marvin's extraordinary musical talent. His voice remains unique in 20century music.

I will be missing Marvin - and other artists precious to my heart - till the end of my time.

But, fortunately: God left us their wonderful music as long as we live.

  • Thumbs up for James Jamerson!!

  • Best song of all time

  • I can say there are two kind of music style in the pop songs. One is Marvin's and the others.

  • @seongmanlee3 but marvin didn't make pop music though,this is r&b/soul :)

  • Oh how I love this song! How I wish I could join in with my humble yearnings! Seriously though, this has been a BIG favourite of mine since this song first became "public".

  • 297 people have no clue "whats goin on?"

  • It's crazy to think that this album was cut in 1971 and all the messages and songs of this album are incredibly relevant still in 2012. Man, What is Going on Marvin Gaye? That's what I what to know!

Things sure haven't been the same (or have changed much unfortunately) without you Marvin!

  • MG was one the most talented performers of all time. His death was so tragic. Can't imagine how the parents must have felt.

  • @aleinkyable His dad killed him. Or rather, if you can call a man who does that to his son a "father"... Tragic, man.

  • Loved Marvin Gaye!

  • What I gotta say is, isn't it fucked up the stuff he was singing about in '73, nearly 40 years ago, is STILL happening TODAY? Dude, seriously...WTF IS going on?!

  • Marvin Gaye brother, you were as smooth as butter. Thanks for the tunes.

  • It's not often that a YouTube video gets me dancing. Seriously, I just stood up from my chair and danced like my mom and dad dances ... two-stepping. Marvin Gaye is in my studio right now, spiritually!

  • Just before the Hollywood Jews and the zionist sleepers in orgs like the NAACP destroyed black culture and and black music and the black family with cultural Marxism and the virus of Rap.

  • So Massive! Most perfect album of all time. :)

  • Short life, immortal talent.

  • tu et le king marvin mercie

  • Marvin Gaye's impact to music is equal to what Martin Luther King's impact was to our society. An ambassador of tolerance of beliefs, embracing differences, and equality for all, and most important, loving each other as human beings. What's truly tragic is how his life ended...violent, hate filled by the hands of the man who brought him into the world. I hope none of you can understand.

  • Oh my.... It's James Jamerson.

  • He is hot!!!!!OMG!!!Apolonio del Olimpo!He is a god!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Marvin Gaye on the 19th September 1980 at St George's Hall, Bradford, U.K ..... AWESOME!

  • When I stop crying ... James Jamerson live on bass. Too much. Marvin improvising on piano ... too much.

But what really stands out here is an age-old reality. That reality is TWO-FOLD: Corporations will rape a land, a city, a community, and leave like it never happened. That's the first thing to consider, and corporations are PEOPLE, with hands and heads just like us, who need to be held accountable.

The second thing is that we have to control our babymaking. We do. Now and then.

  • Black love is not white hate. I look at the people in this video with adoration...as I do all my people...as I do with all of God's creations.

  • @freckeledcheese I'm so glad you didn't take my comment out of context. Black love is NOT white hate. I was just taken back to my childhood that's all.

  • moves my spirit towards the light

  • im still listening to this song in 2012. screw the Mayans i got Marvin

  • @bodin97 Me to my brotha our kids need this in there hearts >LOVE

  • Marvin Gaye was the meaning of soul. He had it all together. Great stage presence, great voice, great entertainer. He always had a real solid, kickass showband behind him. What's Going On is one of the greatest albums of all time in my book. It was a concept album that really told what was going on in the late sixties and early seventies. It still holds up today. Every song on that album was killer. My brother and I used to wear that album out playing it over and over. He was taken way to soon.

  • Marvin is a sweet person who lived for music and die for it he he deserve to be come the american dream long live margin.........

  • I'm stll waiting for Jesse Jackson to finally release the whole concert. The wait has been too long!

  • U don't even hav to think about lyrical meanings, Marvin Gaye has the greatest ever voice in this genre. I say genre cos in rock it's Paul Rogers. Between the two, no beats Marvin!

  • this some flyyy shitt

  • I'm not religiou but if there's one thing that make you can feel closer, it is this song

  • Anyone who dislikes this song has no soul whatsoever.

  • @TwistedSpeech anyone who dislikes this can't be a member of the human species...

  • @dropgigg Well even animals have souls, so they have to be a soulless rock, that's for sure.

  • @TwistedSpeech "Very Extremely True"

  • @TwistedSpeech

Or simply a different taste in music.

  • @The4JAMDUDE4 Yeah, a bad taste in music.

  • is there any wonder why Rolling Stone magazine has this ranked as the 4th greatest song of all time?

  • @classicjessy and the album is #6 on the greatest album list

  • Jamerson: 2:23 7:48

  • @TheAlexFromGalax yep. Jamerson's 1 finger has more soul than most have in their entire body

  • This is so incredibly good.

  • Timeless relevance are two of the best words I can find for this piece of work. Look around today and try to tell me that things are "better" than they were when Marvin Gaye wrote this 30 years ago. People are still dying in senseless wars, babies are still starving across the world, hate and racism is still alive and well, we rape the land and leave nothing for the future. What will it take for us to wake up and realize we are a pending implosion?

  • what a great classic from a very talented man!! there is no music like this today rap & hip hop cannot compare to the music years ago!! thank's for the posting!!

  • Everyone's getting way too deep into this shit. Let's just say that this song is powerful and just as relevant as it was back then, and leave it at that.

    Most importantly....I'd fuck.

  • 27 years today I lost an important figure in my life... My father it doesn't seem that long ago. I wish you were here to see all of us now, which I know you see us from above. Love you pops. Eddie Bingo Brown.

  • one heck of a piano solo from Marvin, never knew he could play like that.

  • the exerts of a community are really moving...

  • this is the MASTERPIECE album, in my opinion. i wore out the vinyl. so ahead of his time, like so many of the great ones... those funk brothers are beyond.

  • This is one of the greatest albums of all time! Hands down. The words are as appropriate today as they were in 1973.

  • @1252Mjones Just so you know, he recorded this in 1970 and was released in 1971.

  • Comment removed

  • @1252Mjones Yes indeed!

  • If I had only one choice of who I would listen to for all eternity it would be the brilliant Marvin Gaye and the bass of James Jamerson.

And for the 295 people who voted dislike you are either tone death or a racist POS.

    Signed,

A middle aged white man blessed to grow up during the Motown hey day!

And FYI I am a right wing as they come and even the music bible agrees with me ranking this as one of the 5 greatest songs of all time. And we get two gems

Thumbs up people only love conquers hate.

  • 8:57 is one of the greatest images ever to be on my lap-top screen.

  • i felt in love with the women at 0:02

  • Still as relevant today as it was when Marvin dropped this track

    back in the day

  • Geniusz ehhh

  • 292 people don't know what's going on.

  • @Tolkieniana1

theres 292 people who i would like to give a slap to,,,,,

  • @Tolkieniana1 Good to know there are only 292 confussed people in the world.

  • The MAN!

  • Yesteryear black people were so much more real and beautiful than the crap we've turned into today

  • @summersbr1

    blame integration!

  • @summersbr1 Try not to generalise.

  • THE MAN !!

  • dit blijft behoren tot het beste van de 20ste eeuw.

  • Nope, there was no reason for Marvin's farther to do this. RIP, Marivn Gaye, still loved in 2012!

  • 291 accidentally pressed the wrong button

  • i saw someone bashing luther vandross over marvin gaye i mean marvin he was good in his own way but luther paved the way for marvin i mean name one marvin song that can stand a chance against can i take you out tonight or your secret love many many more marvin was ok but luther was greatness!!!!

  • @TheBabygirlcrystal.

You are absolutely wrong, it was marvin who paved the way and he did not just write great music, he wrote powerful music that spoke to the masses about injustice, equality, love, and self reflection. Luther was A great Talent, but Marvin was a great inspiration to the movement of P.E.A.C.E. Luther was a great balladeer but Marvin was a great Inspiration even to Luther.

  • @TheBabygirlcrystal You can't be serious. Luther and Marvin are both significant artists for various reasons, but who produced the groundbreaking albums?? Marvin Gaye.

  • Powerful from the TRUTH behind the Music....Marvin Gaye Lives in ALL of us. Thank you for posting.

  • It's ironic that people should exploit peace songs by using them as a platform to spread disharmony and disintegration. Mr. Gaye's up there now, filled with sadness, shaking his head at you all.

  • @SuperGForce01 Great comment Brother. Total agree with You !

    Greetings from France.

  • @SuperGForce01 .......the reason for that is simple clear...... we all live on the same planet......BUT.......not with the same HORIZONT ! Bless....

  • when will someone make a movie about this great motown legend???????
