  • is it just me or does it seem that there are just random notes thrown in for no reason?

  • Gould's interpretation of this is absolutely stunning.

  • Glenn Gould really is a great exponant of Schoenberg's piano works.

  • Listening to music can be intellectually stimulating-it doesn`t have to be comforting.

It's taken as a given that this applies to other art forms, but music is sometimes releagated to

    aural wallpaper.

  • @pheagles22 anyone who flames this video is really bored and should probably read a book

  • @pheagles22 I can't say for sure about the creepy, but how did you know I slept in a coffin?

  • @pheagles22

    Ignorant comment. -____-

  • At first I wondered, which of the pieces this could be. Now I can tell, it's the second half of the Intermezzo (starting at bar 24)

  • Best thing ever, period.

  • can you imagine the horror- here i am listening hard to such music and my mother is singing an chinese oldie off-pitch behind me loudly!

but anyway, i want to be able to play this remarkable song too. wish i could see someone play this live.

  • jajajaja el comentario pa amistoso.

  • i belive this is an amazing peice many closed minded people probly wont liek it because they decide that it is diffrent or they are to lazy to acutlay get that intesity and feel behind the music ... i enjoy schoenberg i belive he is an amazing conposer and i only hope to beable to try and play one of his pieces some day :)

Many open-minded people also dislike it. There's a reason for that. The average ear is not accustomed to dissonance of this sort, and on this scale. It is hard or impossible to get out of the rut that is Western classical harmony.

I find this music grating and annoying, though I appreciate what it is, and what Schoenberg was trying to do. Free atonality is much more interesting, because it allows for uninhibited expression, whereas the twelve-tone method was/is restrictive.
