I have a number of copies of XP. When I rebuild my PCs, I can just reinstall XP - no problem. Not so with Windows 7. If you buy Windows 7 OEM, you can only only install it once on one PC - rebuild your PC, you have to buy a new copy of Windows 7. I rebuild my PC about every 2 years, I can't aford Windows 7. (note: retail box win7 can move to new hardware, but only after you call MS and complain, sit on hold, call back, etc...)

There really isn't a reason if you say that you have no need for windows 7.... for me windows 7 is the best windows ever, for me xp sucked horribly, and vista was ok after sp2 but windows 7 is really good, I used to have ubuntu installed and removed it to install windows 7, best thing I did ;), its fast, no driver hunting or driver issues like in xp.. it has very useful features, its your choice to install it or not.. anyway.... As time goes on XP wont be supported in App's from Microsoft and other companys, (Hardware, and Software) It looks a lot better the XP aswel as being a lot faster then Vista and XP..Ive all OS's installed (XP, XP balck, Vista, Winn 7 prem and ultimate) all work well, so really i would does suggest getting Win7 and dual booting it with XP and Win7 if you have the money to spare, if not don't waste your time, it is more a less the same, XP is clearly doin the job for you...

Yeah I got Vista with my new laptop and it i SOOOOO SLOOOOOOOW.........

Tried everything to change it to XP, even making a custom XP installation disk with nlite... no good, wouldn't install, SO... i'm waiting for my Win7 disks to arrive in the post and i'm hoping this OS is less CPU heavy, and doesn't CONSTANTLY access the HDD for no very good reason... Next time i'm getting a bloody MAC.

I can't understand why everybody hates it! I just love it! Much better than XP !! Vista is much easier to use and it's not slow, once you change the visual settings according to your pc and it will run fast as lightning.

Vista was a disaster, and I predict pretty much the same for W7 (just a prediction) and XP has served me well for as long as I have had it and continues to do so

A few minor things happen every now and then, but my brother has Vista on his laptop and he is constantly complaining about it (and all he uses it for is Championship Manager!!)

I would hope that W7 is more like XP in its design than Vista, otherwise forget it

I had vista but went back to XP after 9 months of hoping I would get to like it. Vista is just like XP except it is three times slower because of the cumbersome CP usage. I have Windows Vista and really don't see what all the fuss is about...It works grand, the same as all the rest and I think it's faster that XP..I'm sure Windows 7 is better again but Vista is definitely better than XP..I don't think it's fair for people to say they "don't like it" just because it's changed and it's called 'Computer' instead of 'MY Computer'....yes, things get changed around a little bit so deal with it and stop saying the old one is better just because your used to it...!

It has nothing to do with getting used to it. I like many of the changes in Vista. I have it on two PCs. On my server, it works fine, but I had to disable over half of the default services to get it to work fine. I also have it on a game machine, where it does not work fine at all. Any time I update anything (say a virus detection update, or any other auto update) the systems spends the next two hours thrashing the HD - making a restore point - I think. Let alone all the crashes

For me the problem with 7 is the price. I would be okay with that price to upgrade one of my old XP machines, but not a new Vista PC. It's my Vista PCs that I want to upgrade (fix). Windows 7 looks like a Vista fix to me. It should have been a service pack for Vista, or at least there should be a low cost Vista upgrade path. I just bought Vista a few months ago, I will be dammed if I will reward MS for the Vista disaster by paying to fix it. I am going back to XP on principle.

I switched to mac this Summer, used Leopard for a few weeks and then installed snow leopard but it is not significantly faster than Leo and unfortunately it hangs up for about 10 seconds, this happens maybe 4-7 times an hour... And I hate it... I bypassed vista first i wanted to switch but I didn't want to spend 300€ on an os. Windows 7 is 10 times better than XP. It never crashed to me (i am talking about the system, not the programs, programs do crash on any OS). It is faster than Vista and more reliable than XP. This is the best OS Microsoft ever made.

I'm on Windows 7 RC and love it as XP doesen't know hat to do with my dual-core. Howver there is a problem with upgrading (actually 2) 1: have a lot of files on XP and programs with no installers (yes I know a way around just not worth it and 2: $300 for home premium! $450 for Pro and about $500 for Ultimate. Hi Dave, been using windows 7 enterprise (90 day trial for testing purposes) and worked fine for 2 weeks but out of nowhere did not want to boot so I had to run a REPAIR and finally fixed it. I also use a Macbook black (2008) with snow leopard and absolutely love the mac. Hoping only to use windows at the office and at home only by necessity.

There is a bigger reason people are still on XP, upgrading from Vista is simple point and click, upgrading from XP to 7 is a freakin nightmare.

Windows 7 might be a lot better than Vista, but it will takes more time to prove it is better than XP.

& uses more resources than XP, so I think people will wait to buy their next machine with windows 7 rather than upgrade older XP machines.

I got stung when I bought a gateway t-1625 with Vista on. Thought wtf, if I don't like it I'll put xp on. Gateway had it pretty much locked into Vista as they refused to release all XP drivers. Dave! I originally planned on buying the 15" MBP, but after the iMac refresh, a quad core i5 or maybe i7 would be a great first Mac. I really need the power as I'm still learning, but getting in to video editing, and a bit of graphic design as well. I'm a mac user, through and through. I have a PC for gaming and stuck with XP through the Vista disaster (I had vista and re-installed XP).

I got Win7 and am amazed by it. It takes a lot of ques from OS X in terms of UI, but under the hood it works brilliantly, using the hardware much, much more effectively.

As for the arguments for/against Windows, bullshit. MS control the market like it or not, except Apple's market are the 10% that spend good money. MS control a loss-leader market...
