Fire first! Great point to make.. excellent job right off the bat. And noticing the bedding even as you notice the water source.. you were really taking in your area. Getting off the ground would be a must at night so you were covering ever big issue I seen. I can't say hats off enough. NOT stopping to dwell on what you should have in that pack or what you could have done was a very big plus for me.. everyone always tells people.. I should have or I could have.. again.. very well done!!.AJ
Great job there Zach. Keep up the great work. When we put ourselves in these type scenarios is when we REALLY learn what we know and don't know regardless of what we thought we knew. Again great job and like some one else said here, you are way ahead of most folks who have just read about but never participated in this type of activity.
one of the best videos you made!!! really cool! I heard, that you should add a little bit of dirt into water that comes from snow/ice, because otherwise you might bleed in the stomach because of osmosis (pure water gets into your cells, and fills them till they explode)
@JoeandZachSurvival it is because there are no electrolytes, ions and micronutrients in pure water. If you drink a whole lot of water from ice or snow for a longer period of time you definetly will get a problem. pure water gets into the cells because it wants to make a pressure balance, thats whats I learned in chemistry class. add a little bit of earth, and this problem is solved
@alonewolverine1984 yes youre cells can explode but it takes a whole lot of water to do that.. and you don't need to use dirt if you have wild edibles
great video man. you're miles ahead of many others as far as being prepared, skill wise, for a situation like this. one concern i would have is the bedding catching fire. maybe build a wall of rocks between you and the fire, then the heat will still radiate but the threat of catching fire is less. good luck with the next part; i am looking forward to seeing it.
@iksnyzrog Thanks , your the second person to mention it so I will put some rocks along my bed because I was concerned about catching fire , Thanks for the comment ~ Zach
@OscarBlackEagle Yeah I would have its just that it was a multi tool and the blade would have came back and possibly sliced my finger , I think i need a fixed blade next time , Thanks for watching ~Zach
great stuff Zach, good job man. I'm a restless sleeper so I would need to put a log between me and the fire lol. I'd set myself on fire by 1am LOL. My mrs always complains that I roll around to much. just me hehe.
@JoeandZachSurvival Howdy my friend. I think you might have misunderstood who my comment was directed at, and it was not you buddy. I think you and your pops are making great videos! I was directing my comment to @borderraven who was criticizing you and your calorie burning. Thanks for not blocking me by thinking i was being an ASS!
@borderraven Very true with the snow, but at the same time I am learning and by practicing the scenario when I'm at home I can fix the mistakes and get it all right when I actually am in a survival situation .
i always gather twigs of varied sizes before lighting the fire... it's always hard to keep the magneseum in place as you try to strike, huh?

Zach, noticed the small leg trap in your kit. Do you have a video relating to this item and other traps or snares you use?

@alonewolverine1984 Really ? I have never heard of that , is it because its distilled and there is no oxygen in the water ?

@alonewolverine1984 could you salt the water if you carried a those tiny packets of salt in your kit?
zehnsechz 1 month ago
@zehnsechz you could, better than nothing. salt is a mineral and has ions, but dont be put off by using earth, it wont kill you.

It looks like you're using the blade of your knife to strike. Better to use the back of the blade to save your knife edge. Great video.

You are spending too many calories making fire since you didn't prepare the wood.
You are spending too many calories collecting snow in your bottle because you didn't use your hands to compact it.
