I couldn't make it more than a minute in, I fucking hate John Lydon: He was the first, "Oooooh look how edgey and anti-establishment I am, isn't that cool?" type of guy.
Punk would have been a few pub rock licks and a shortlived PR scam without John Lydon. None of the music which exploded in its aftermath would have happened if it had just been Matlock, Jones and Cook aping the Faces or the New York Dolls with McLaren gobshiting his way through it all. Nothing. This clip kind of shows why. What a fucking hero.
@NormanArches Screw that clown SpaceRitual. I am an old Grateful Dead fan who used to flip people out in the 70's with the Sex Pistols after the party was really buzzing. We weren't into punk or hard rock, but it was quite evident from the start that there was no pretense or bullshit from Lydon. My cultural icons are folks like Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh. Hunter Thompson, Ken Kesey, Neal Casady and Bob Dylan. John Lydon is right up there, someone who changed the way we think. He is a hero.
@NormanArches I never saw the Pistols, in my New York arrogance I was certain that they would play in NYC. But I did see Public Image Ltd about a half dozen times and they were some of the best shows that I have seen. And I have seen thousands of shows.
