I can't believe how organized the ants are while moving the leaves. I didn't realize that the ants would be able to do so much work and more so quickly.
I was hoping that there would be more violent and actual leaf cutting. None the less, that's crazy! Also, around 1:10, you can see how the dry leaves on what must be the forest floor are all dead- the fresh leaves don't get time to return to the soil, because these crazy ants sweep 'em away!
I saw a lot of ants similar to these when I was back home, not leaf cutters, but large red ants (and black ones too) along the Coast of Victoria, often along the cliff top paths...they certainly weren't cute...
very interesting professor hambone..i knew that ants were extremely strong and could lift way beyond there body weight. Crazy to see them in action like this!
your name came up tonight in my LA methods and material classes....one of my fellow classmates mentioned his botany class and i asked - "do you have sam hammer?!"...we both agreed you're the BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!
how i wish every class for the rest of my life could be like yours.....so fun, interesting, passionate, informative, exciting, FABULOUS!
i do hope all is well with you and that someday our paths will once again cross....martini and jazz, perhaps?...mwah!
