@TheDynamicDiDi Thank you so much, TheDynamicDiDi! I am so glad you enjoyed this video! My Father used my Sony HDR-XR520 Camcorder fitted with an external microphone to record this video. That is why the sound came out very clearly and with stereo quality.
I remember every note of this Lucio San Pedro masterpiece. We used to sing this every year, every 16th of December. Though I do not read notes that well, I can play the piano using its chords The piece would start from the key of F and would end in A. Anyone interested can ask me for it. Love the song by heart
galing talaga ni Maestro Lucio San Pedro.. nakakaiyak... sobrang nakakainspire.. PASKO NA MGA PILIPINO!! :)) praise all the filipino musicians all over the world! :)
Can I also have a copy? This is for our inter-school choral performance. Hope you can send me a copy when you have time. Just send it to santosgentdeleon@yahoo.com. Thank you! Maligayang Pasko!
I heard that choir can no longer sing this not unless we get the permission from the owners and copyrighters of this song? Is this true.. we were singing for the past 3 years and my music teacher told me not to since this is the case.
@leu19711 I am very sorry, but I am one of the Orchestra Members and not the Music Librarian, so I don't know where to get the vocal parts. I hope you can find them somewhere. Best wishes!
@SCSQ4 can i also have a copy? This is for our choral performance in our school this coming december. Hope you can send me a copy when you have time. Just send it to santosgentdeleon@yahoo.com. Thank you! Maligayang pasko!
@computerno1718 Sorry, I will not have any time to provide you a copy of this video. My recommendation is just to download a copy of this from the YouTube website. Best wishes for your School's Concert in December.
@leu19711 it is Dec 16, 2011. Maybe it is too late to send you coies of SATB and piano accompaniment? Please respond if you still need them for next year @ royco1@juno.com
Lucio D. San Pedro was the conductor of our band in Obando, Bulacan, Philippines during the early 60s. This is the way the maestro wanted this piece to be played, the "bells tolling" at 4:00 AM, summoning the faithful to church, the "hurried march" to the church-because we are not used to the cold weather, the "peaceful feeling" the moment we sat on the pew and the "GRANDEUR" as we celebrate the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
All in all, I think this is a good rendition of the masterpiece. The choir sings with their heart and that is the most important. The definition of "better" rendition of the song would always depend on who is listening to it. Kudos to the symphony orchestra, the choir and the conductor!
para sa akin, bitin man ang luwalhati ok lang maganda parin pakinggan kasi nakanta nila sa abot ng kanilang makakaya, yung may alam sa kanta na ito, contact the choir and teach them kung ano ang inyong nalalaman, other wise manahimik na lang tayo. peace men.
Very good! there is balance among the choir (S,A,T,B) and the orchestra.. its so nice to watch and hear there voice.. :) keep it up.. :) ding dong ding dong..
about the first part...tunog yun ng bell ng simbahan..according to my Prof..madalas na nagiging problem about this piece pag kinakanta ng choir eh parang nananakbo sila...nag start yung pag bilis pagdating dun sa part na "babatiin ang ninong at ninang...towrads the end patakbo na..bukaka yung obligato dun sa part ng "SA BELEN"and parang bitin yung ending part..AT salupa'y kapayapaan sa mga taong may mabuting kalooban..ahhhh...ahhhhh...ahhh...DEO GRATIAS!!! that's San Pedro's Signature....
@arucon: I agree! My non-Filipino friends' first impression of the rhythm of "Simbang gabi... simula ng Pasko..." was it was a "revolutionary march". I told them it was actually a "festive" march way to the Church :)
This is the first time I have heard 'Simbang Gabi' accompanied by a symphony orchestra. Whoa! Now I really appreciate the grandeur of this song!
Kudos to the Filipino-American Symphony Orchestra (the conductor, Robert Shroder, is actually half-American and half-Caviteno!) and the Choir! Great performance! :)
Blessed Sacrament Choir we sung this SIMBANG GABI. ... it was so wonderful and so nice to sing. .. i miss this song. .. this coming dec. 16 we will sing this again then hope its good. .
back then in high school for the last day of NAMCYA Festival..all participating choir perform SIMBANG GABI with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra...very memorable sakin yun..
I really like this! I almost cry to the last part! First time to hear this with full orchestration. Grabe! Very magnificent ang dulo. "Luwalhati! Luwalhati sa Diyos sa Kaitaasan. At sa lupa'y kapayapaan sa mga taong may mabuting kalooban! Aaah!!!" :D
Well done to the everyone for such a wonderful performance. Indeed, as RIVERODAN said, Sa Pedro's work is at par with Beethoven's and Handel's work! Keep it up! Thanks.
@PBSA1974 This is rarely performed in full orchestra, I remember it only onced at CCP by UPCC and PPO conducted by Prof Rey Paguio. Really wanted to hear that full orchestration, the chimes the timpani the brass- makes it sound so festive fit for the real celebration of the song and the season. First video I have seen showing the full orchestration and a good rendition by the Filipino Community and a nice video resolution too. Thanks for posting this nice music video.
great! i remember the manila symphony days at the metropolitan theater in the 80s when we woul play this piece during the first simbang gabi at the the ccp complex grounds at 4 am. very nostlagic! superb performance both for the orchestra and choir!-elma
