  • Parece ser que esta canción se la dedicó a la que era su chica en esa época (76-77): Paloma "Palmolive" Romero de Málaga, bajista en The Slits y The Raincoats.

  • god i love his voice

  • The break-down at 1:26 is years ahead of the Smiths and other 80s Indie bands.

  • the version on "burning ambitions" is the slow one

  • i cant watch this enough!bloody fab!loveitt!:)thanks!

  • Sexy little number to sing to all the sweet little girls!

  • @duane Friend! I know thats right.A guitarist/singers.w./musician 2?A man after my own heart bro! That's how I talk even...ha! Sing to all my sweet little twisty little girls! Hah. Are you me? What do you play? Got a band? Favorite songs to sing to girls, and overall?Lets comp notes! (Peeps:if you don't know how to play well this does not work well. If you've got a good 10-15 years solo acoustic or 5 with a good band you're wasting time. 4hrs practicexday for 6 years..AT LEAST).iselfmeetsihear.

  • @newmanfrigan must of missed all your hits over the years. who are you?

  • 1:28, man, i have seen Mick with literally every type of les paul custom. White, Wine, Black, and now sunburst, nuts

  • JOE STRUMMER MOTHERFUCKERS

  • %Thanks, I enjoyed that!!!

  • my teacher showed us a movie about woody today , he was awesome !

  • kill bieber 50cent and lady gaga and bring joe fuckin back

  • Como siempre Joe dando toques m´agicos a la m´usica!!

  • i love that comment joe could have sung the phone book and it would be great,,,he was special.the best punk singer by a country mile,,,rotten ha ha

  • this is such poppy song. but i love it all the same. joe could have sung the phonebook and i would have listened to it. miss ya joseph strummer you were my coolest mate.

  • this sounds faster than I remember the single

  • @BS3shocker 2 versions friend, this is #2 faster.....

  • So cool and it shows where the perfect feel for pop melody came from. Strummer is God.

  • Great song! Joe Strummer is my favourite singer of all time.

  • Awesome - what more needs to be said....?!

  • Kosmo Vinyl: I called him Woody for some reason, I know the reason, he had little pointed ears at the top and I thought he looked like Woody Woodpecker, and I didn't know he'd been called Woody before, and he said "Don't ever fucking call me that" and I thought, God he's sensitive. :D

    RIP JOE.

  • @BenHughesLlan It was Topper who said that in Julien Temple's "The Future is Unwritten", not Kosmo Vinyl.

  • Ah john, ur so awesome. This reminds me of the clash song 1-2 crush on u. Love u joe...no homo

  • Amazing,Strummer what a genius.

  • This song absolutely rips! Just great- if some halfway decent band covers this it'll go top 40 for sure.

  • The voice.... unforgetable! Joe, we all grew up with you.... sleep well friend.... thank you.

  • i love this!bloody fab!:)i think ive watched it 70,000 times!:)love it!

  • Richard the III - Richard the Turd- dick the Shit.

    What a funny guy

  • at 2.20...is that jonny green on stage holding Joe up..?

  • Bimey! Can't we go back and do it all again, Joe?

  • i like the other version better

  • the Clash's 1st gig was supportin the Pistols,in a Sheff pub called the Black Swan, and about 70 odd 101's fans turned up,and they got the Clash instead, and they were gutted....lol,they didnt know how good they would be...

    R.I.P...JOE.......PUNK ROCK WARLORD

  • One of the Pistols first Gigs was supporting the 101ers. Joe thought they were great the rest of the group found them crap. Odd world

  • @xmisspnutinix all the 101ers apart from Strummer had beards, bearguts and long hair. JOW wow wow had a revelation...cut his hair...got drainpipe trousers...got introduced to smelly punks by dodgey manager and...waive his old friends goodbye...we've all done it...but NOT WITH A BLACK TELECASTER stapped on ...

  • You can already hear Joe's gravel vocals all he needed was a musical out-let THE CLASH! Thank god for them!!!

  • johnny caramelo....

  • Johnny, Woody, Joe.....total rock 'n' roll lives on, what an amazing inspiration!

  • john mellor is amazing.

  • in this band there was a chilean (like me)... something to be proud of

  • just love joe strummer

  • Joe strummer is the best

  • Slurred and garbled Rock and Roll, forgot to mention the 'spit', he was pretty good at that too in his early days!

    Great photos, great times!

  • WOODY!!! lol

  • Nobody can fill Joe Strummers shoes if M,T,S got back together. These guys are in their late 50's and any new singer to fill Joes place would be under enormous preasure.

  • even though strummer is passed i would pay to see it any day

  • No Strummer, no The Clash

  • Tim is a wanker.. If Mick, Topper and Paul went back up to the stage, i would attend to see them performing

  • joe strummer= god x10 lets leave it at that!!!

  • He was THE man !

  • he Is the man haha

  • he still is. he will always be the man

  • Did he say, 'Now, I used to be a teenage drug taker!' Now, you see, this is a clear example of not knowing exactly what the hell he is saying, not a criticism but it can be very exasperating. That's his style.

  • yea. thats what he said mate

  • No for serious. Seriously serious? Really?

  • Oh yeah. Slurred and Garbled Rock n Roll.

But yes, those are the lyrics.

  • As of this date, this will be a first for me for correctly deciphering what he said, thanks, Bile. : )

  • Yes he did. I think it's pretty obvious

  • Bull. I just saw the lyrics on a site for the first time and before I did that I could have sworn, just because I had to laugh it off from the exasperation of trying to figure out what Joe is saying, and I thought he actually did say something about cheese and I looked at the site and goddamn the funniest lines are there at the same time I love the man but it ain't obvious.

  • RIP Woody.

  • I don't know how happy he'd be to be called "Woody" again.

  • haha. dont ever fucking call me woody again!

  • @CelticEmpire haha yea i probubly wouldent do that

  • @CelticEmpire that;s true but he was called Woody when he engineenerd this tune.

I think if nt mystaken they recorded it in a poxy hole in FARLEIGH place...or maybe I'm wrong cos' I think VIC MAILE did some of their tunes...at least they demoed or practiced in Farleigh place Hackney...well Stokey...best album of 1981 this !

  • @CelticEmpire probabile he d say " My name aint Woody, I' m Joe, ya know ? "

  • @CelticEmpire He would be angry. After Joe changed his name whenever people would call him woody, he would either blank them out, or say "dont fucking call me woody, my name is joe"

  • @texecution "I called him Woody for some reason. I know the reason, Joe had little pointed ears at the top, and I thought he looked like Woody Woodpecker. Now I didn't know that he'd been called Woody before, and I said 'oh, hey, Woody' and he went, 'DON'T EVER FUCKING CALL ME THAT,' and I thought, 'God, he's sensitive...'"

-Topper Headon, The Future is Unwritten

  • i think i like the elgin avenue version a bit more

  • miss you joe. rip

  • He wrote this one for his girl friend who lived in his squat, Palmolive (real name Paloma) of the Slits. They opened for the Clash a bit back in the day. Interesting band, especially Ari, very cool !

  • yeah. he got her to change from hippie to punk. This is the 1st punk band to me...even though its pub rock.

  • i think Punk started with the standells and other sixties bands. then the MC5 really ran with it

  • This story is told on 'The future is unwritten' =)

  • i love this (:

  • Joe!!

  • From all the songs Joe wrote, i thing this is one of the best!

I love it, This and Johnny appleseed make me feel so good inside:)

  • Brilliant song! Try and get hold of the cover of this by the carpettes its also fucking good

  • Amazing ! I need to hear more of their stuff

  • would have been interesting to see how the clash would have done this song had strummer taken it over with him. and also how much it sold under the name of the clash had it been released as a single !

  • would have fitted well on 'london calling' too!

  • No it wouldn't. Too pubrock, too nice and traditional, of no consequence. London Calling was way more adventurous, man!

  • this version is pretty cool, tho I prefer the one on eight avenue breakdown. "the keys to your oy oy", so much fun.

  • 1:09 is the best

  • this isnt the prop single of this song is it is this like a demo version or something cause ive got the original.

  • Beginning of legend

  • is it just me, or is Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day a complete cheap Strummer imitation?? Nothing compares to you Joe, rest in peace, brother.

  • i agree he killed i fought the law!! (greenday)

  • definetly did

  • yep

  • agree

  • not an imitation... I think B.JOE. Armstrong is just a young fan... But Joe is Joe, And Nobody can imitate Joe Strummer ( For me i think all the punk fan, or clash fan, have a joe strummer in the head, musical or/and political. )

    Best Regards.

  • black and white photography is superb at catching the moment
