Man, I HATED that little "Daisy" girl!! Got on my nerves every Saturday (at 9:30--that's when RD&MT aired). Glad you uploaded though, 'cause I haven't seen it since the first run. Looooooong Time.
I did, too.I did see this show, wondering if any of the cartoons would be faithful to Kenneth Ghrame's original concepts.i can't remember any that were.
The studio was founded by Osamu Tezuka, mostly to animate his manga properties. Eventually, they started animating other people's manga. Before it went bankrupt in 1973, they also animated this for Rankin/Bass (along with Frosty the Snowman)
This obviously appears to be animated in Japan, judging by the slower frame rate than most standard American cartoons. Was "Tales of the Wizard of Oz" also animated in Japan?
OK. I can kinda tell if a cartoon was animated in Japan because they have a slower framerate that is common in various Anime cartoons (at least until the 2000s).
"Tales of the Wizard of Oz" was animated at Crawley films in Ottawa. Sadly the studio no longer exists. A friend of mine actually had a summer job painting cels of the muchkins!
I have to admit I liked Paul Coker Jr's MAD Magazine installments more than these weird-ass low-budget cartoons. Though Messrs. Rankin and Bass have a lot to do with that. Not without its charm though.
These are the color opening/closing "Reluctant Dragon and Mr. Toad Show" credits since I have seen them in B&W in 4 R.D.A.M.T.S. 1/2 hour episode w/o/c prints on the trading circuit!
Excelent cartoon too!!! Can you upload some episode of King Kong Cartoon, Rod Rocket or Colonel Bleep??? Are you Mr. Ron Kurer, webmaster of the Toon Tracker Site???
Well, most Rankin-Bass properties are animated in Japan. Mostly different studios. Reluctant Dragon is probably one of the few that wasn't handled by TopCraft.
Heh. Yeah, the buck tooth "wide-eyed kid on Christmas morning" look of many of the Rankin-Bass characters really hooked me into watching a lot of them. I still enjoy catching the cartoons when I have a chance.
This is so bad compared to Disney, I'm going to favor it! XP

Didn't Mushi Studios also do some of the animation for the "Heathcliff" cartoon series by DiC in 1984? I recall seeing that name in the credits

Mushi is probably best known for "Astro Boy."

Aww, I was expecting the RD to be a bit more dainty than this. :) Shame they massacred the Disney version from way back when.

LOL! It just occurred to me that the dragon probably vaporized that poor girl with the daisies into ashes.
