  • I like good music... from today and from the past... but this is even more, ITS EPIC GREATNESS

  • Watching Dave dance always reminds me of Elaine dancing on the Seinfeld episode "The Little Kicks".

Sorry Dave. I can't help it.

  • The handshake Seals the contract From the contract There's no turning back The turning point Of a career In Korea, being insincere

The holiday Was fun packed The contract: Still intact

The grabbing hands Grab all they can All for themselves After all

It's a competitive world Everything counts in large amounts

The graph On the wall Tells the story Of it all Picture it now See just how The lies and deceit Gained a little more power

Confidence Taken in By a sun tan And a grin

  • wonderful, wonderful song

  • Whoa at 3:31, is that Paul Rudd? lol

  • Dave was 21 when this came out

  • I'd literally make love to this song if it was possible.

  • I love everything that counts...in this wonderlful world of ours...planet earth...!

  • I love everthing that counts...

  • Ever notice the range of hair color?

    One blonde,

    One red head,

    One light brown,

    One dark brown.

    80's diversity.

(BTW, that's how people danced in the 80's)

  • Does anyone out there know what the hell this song is about----in conjunction to the video? I'm not gay or homosexual, or, anything like that, but, I find these guys rather handsome, don't you think?!!!

  • @grumpypant It should be obvious. "The grabbing hands/grab all they can/everything counts in large amounts"

It's about the Big Money Boyz, the financial Masters of the Universe, the Wall Street Wizards and the rest who have given us this lovely recession while banking (heh) enormous profits for themselves.

  • its not still the 80s!!

  • I love the close-ups of Martin Gore :)

  • I love this sond woooooow

  • Dont get me wrong, im obsessed with depeche mode but the way dave gahan is dancing makes me want to laugh

  • @loveless2198 es que no sientes el ritmo de los 80´s jeje.. o no estas loco en la segunda decada del 2000 jeje :) a mi me encanta como baila!! jiji

  • everything about dmode is awsome!

  • Munich Germany dutch land!!!!!!! thats where the video was made ooo yea

  • @deadsy598666

I think it was filmed in Berlin. The tracks at 0:09 and 0:37 is the Berlin S-Bahn or U-Bahn. 1:53 to 2:05 is the Berlin Wall. And 3:08 onward looks like Wannsee.

  • a super super group.

  • Hey! Does anyone know what country this video took place??????

  • your mom knows nothing...they are not...they are married to women...have been married to women and have kids....tell your mom then go strait to bed! It's past your bed time.

  • @chillaxicate Well you guys don't have to take it the wrong way. She said they MIGHT be. You act like there's something wrong with homosexuality.

  • My mom says that the band members of Depeche Mode are homosexual. Are they? :o

    I'm just curious!

  • @zeepunky your mom is a bitch

  • @eddiedelarosa2 Don't put down my mother for being curious. I guess you can't ask a simple question without getting a disrespectful answer. But whatever she or I said I'm sorry.. -_- Damn..

  • @zeepunky

    ummm no. lol.

  • @Rw7451 Lol. I know. (:

  • 39k views? Man this is like the most awesomest song / vid of all time. Nothing exceeds like excess

  • Right on, that's a DOHC CB750F at the beginning of the video. Now that's eighties for you. I like the bikes just as much as the music from back then. Awesome.

  • IM 22 and iv beeen diggin the 80s also, DM is awsome!

  • i am 18 years old, born in 92 my dad who was born in 63 got me into depeche mode, echo and the bunnymen , the jam and the english beat

  • well the "music" today is prefabricated toilet water and that's why for 2010 the highest-grossing concert acts were old school acts with the exception of Lady Gag Me

  • this was called "new wave" in the 80's, i remember it quite well

  • DM is forever invincible! Don't think there will be another band like this. I thought Modern Talking came pretty close but not sure why they didn't take off in America!

  • great song with greats mades from the age of the sintetizate`s instruments!!!!

Never it could will be the same fell from that composition´s with that electro piano`s....

  • Dave is the best voice that exist and the most charismatic singer, not Bono, Bono would be like Dave

  • Depeche Mode!! What a phenomenal band!! Such great memories come with this band!! This band rocked my soul and helped me through those tough teenage years filled with pain and angst and today, they help me get through the tough adult years living in this cruel, relentless world!! You can always count on DM to get you back to reality!! Depeche Mode forever!! ♥

  • 80's FTW.

  • It still is :)

  • Loved this video..love the song after all of these years.

  • Loved this video..love the song after all of these years.

  • I like to think this is about big corporations outsourcing to foreign countries for bigger profits, lol.

  • I've gotta learn how to dance like DG. Depeche Mode is great!!!

  • D E P E C H E M O D E forever. This is their one song that started the

    R E V O L U T I O N

  • This is real music despite the synthesizer

  • Depeche Mode fucking rules

  • The first time I heard this song back during the mid "eighties",I thought to myself..."what a greedy selfish song, grap all you can?All for themselves?"(but,I was only a young kid then).

By the late 1980's-early '90's,when I was a teenager in HS and got my drivers license & 1st car,I would bass boom this song!

  • Alan Wilder was hot!

  • Wonder where that big hand statue is located shot at in the video?

  • Electronica and Techno was just taking off and this song put it on the chart. I remember staying up late purposely to try and catch it on MTV. Way back before there was any kind of guide to let you know what was on. I have always enjoyed DM and their way to cast a mind spell. Now this tune will be in my head all night.

  • I have so many favorite DM songs but his is my top favorite.:)

  • iniisin I'm with you! WE like the depeche mode classics man and that's all you need to know. The love is out there man!

  • When I was little I thought they were saying "The rebels have, rebel weekend...all by themselves, after all"

  • @SugarSigur lol thats awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @aleruthrocks lol...thanks!

  • I actually managed to get the kids here to love this music. They always come over and ask for me to play some of my old CD's and tapes.

  • I thank my older brother who is STILL a major fan of DM..for introducing me to DM and all the great new wave bands when I was small (i'm an 80's kid) and to this day...I still think all those New WAve bands are still the best..

  • This is an anthem to the death of the middle class. You go tarp, you go big BP corp, you go greedy b@stards!!!

  • Beautiful! DG looks just as good today.

  • Some music transcends time and boundaries and is cherished forever.. some music was made for the moment and the market forces that existed...

    Depeche Mode transcends..

  • no because some people actually like music from thousands of years ago and stuff.. or like you know like classical music.. some people just like classics it just happens... too..

  • I used to sing to this song in the car with my mom when I was little! Practically all DM's songs and now I'm 17 and still singing along to them haha

  • Love this song...

  • good soundtrack for sex

  • Have always loved Depeche Mode's music; my ex-wife loves David Gahan - lol!

  • I like this song a lot but the video isn't very good

  • I love the message in the lyrics of this song. Its beautiful.

  • Ha I LOVE this band :DD they are sooo legit and thier concert man o man no words can discribe it :DD. And i'm only 16 :)

  • Comments by teens about their ages and "past vs present" debates instead of comments about the song. *eyeroll* I really wish comment sections were permanently banned.

  • I mean I figured this stuff would be really bad on videos for "classic rock" songs, but not so much for Depeche Mode. Never overestimate people.

  • I listen to to music from the 50's-90's thanks to my mom. I love it.

  • @akdraw1

Well then why the heck are you on youtube when there are plenty of other video sites that do not have advertisers....

  • @ChefTips

Been here for years without having to deal with the spamatizers much. Lately its coming out in force. I have no problem with Youtube's advertising. I wont watch video advertising to be able to view a clip. Feel free to watch it if you like, I don't mind.

  • I love this song!! These guys rule! We need to go back to the '80's!!

  • Long Live Depeche Mode !!!

  • I miss the 80's

  • I LOVE this song, I LOVE Depeche mode and Book of Love, Nitzer Ebb and ejector.

Martin Gore is a dream. :)

  • man i had a hard time convincing my friends this was the shit back in high school.......fuck it! i did it.i feel old man.

  • I know exactly what you mean :)

  • @INIISIN my friends say they are the reason y im a coke addict.. .. i guess they are just idiots lol.. they say their musics for tweakers nd stuff

  • @INIISIN Dude I so grew up on DM, The Cure, Siouxie, etc.....Grew up in L.A. in the 80's listening to KROQ. This music is the soubdtrack to my entire teenage life!!! My 13 yr old daughter loves DM, I taught her right. Our music will never die my friend!

  • @INIISIN It was...there was a time when DM was the music of alternative, cokeheads and BDSM teens and 20-somethings LOL They were not popular in the U.S. Only hip, club-going 20-somethings loved them in the 80s. Like a friend used to say, "it's the music for young people who cut their wrists" You had to be a dysfunctional young person to even consider liking DM back then!

  • @INIISIN a lot of synth techniques from today's synth masters, remixers, producers, etc were influenced by DEPECHE MODE and NEW ORDER. Alternative dance music and TECHNO, TRANCE, ELECTRONICA wouldn't be what they are today without DEPECHE MODE or NEW ORDER. I'd bet that David Guetta and Timbaland ripped off a few riffs from them ;-)

  • @nazreyes This could be said of the entire Industrial genre. As far back as Throbbing Gristle they pushed synth technology to its furthest..

  • @INIISIN This was the shit in high school for me and I don't care if I'm old!!! Still love it :)

  • memories... miss the 80's-isn't that pathetic?

  • fuk no we were the shit and music sux today so hell no it is not wrong to miss the eighties it was our time.....and man how we shone...

  • Everybody thinks that new music sucks compared to what they grew up with. Kids today will think the music 20 years from now sucks, just like your parent's/grandparents thought your music sucked. The only difference is that you had memories formed around it and they didn't.

  • @jmp51985 your right but we never look at it that way but my kids love the eighties too so im workin on it,,all they need is a good teacher...:)

  • @defconfour12 True that dude, I'm probably closer to your kid's generation, but I love the music from the decade I was born in!

  • @jmp51985 wrong! my nephew still love this group and their teenager

  • @raiden1019 I don't see how you disproved what I said. I was born after this song came out and I love it, but I don't associate it with any memories nor does it remind me of any specific time in my life, at least not yet anyway. It's much easier to like what you know and are familiar with going forward, especially as you get older. Do you know many people in their 70's who like Depeche Mode? Different tastes for a different generation.

  • @jmp51985 I used to think the same way until I found grade-shoolers happening upon 80s hits on youtube and expressing their utter dismay at having been cheated out of such a robust and musically dynamic experience. I so wish what you said was true, but it looks more and more like something very unique happened in the 80s that we will never get back.

  • @breakwide I wouldn't say they were cheated. You could argue that their musical experience in 2010 is more robust and dynamic than you ever had in the 80's. Back then you were limited to whatever was in the local stores and played on the radio. You didn't have Youtube to access decades old music or obscure bands at a whim. The internet has definitely opened up access to music in a way never seen, while simultaneously horizontally expanding interest in different genres on an individual level.

  • @jmp51985 Even in the 80's we understood the value of Hendrix and the Doors from a generation earlier. Good music transcends.

  • @jmp51985 But the point is what happened in the 80's won't come back. Future generations can see what it was, but they aren't living in those times and seeing those bands in their prime. Also back then more people actually bought CD's instead of just downloading their favorite hits off iTunes, so I'm not sure that the internet is broadening horizons for everyone. I totally see what break is saying I was born in 85 so I just missed out on it. Depeche Mode became my favorite band 8 years ago.

  • @breakwide i think you are right......arent you glad we were there...

  • @jmp51985

I was born in 83 and my age of music would be early 90's grundge to early 2000's. But i still think 80' smusic was far better.

  • @HyeAspet LOL I was born in 53 and love this as well as new stuff as well as my 60's favs Rock On

  • @jmp51985 i think music back in the day is better than todays music, probably cause i heard a lot of it wen i was little

  • @jmp51985 I beg to differ. I was born in the late 70s but I didn't even pick up Western music until I was 23. And nothing appealed to me other than the 80s new wave which was already obsolete by then. Few people with taste can dislike the 80s..

  • @jmp51985 Music reflects culture. This song is all about 80s greed. The music today is vapid and banal because society today is vapid and banal. Anyone can be a star, you don't need talent just a drinking problem.

  • @jmp51985 i might be one of the only few people who are VERY young(12 years to be exact) and actually like older music like i mean even back in the 30's!

  • @jmp51985 nicely said, i concur

  • @jmp51985 main reason for this is nostalgia

  • @jmp51985 I wouldn't say that's the only difference

  • @jmp51985 i am 18 years old, born in 92 my dad who was born in 63 got me into depeche mode, echo and the bunnymen , the jam and the english beat so what the hell are you saying?

  • @jmp51985 i am 18 years old, born in 92 my dad who was born in 63 got me into depeche mode, echo and the bunnymen , the jam and the english beat so what the hell are you saying? sounds like your passing judgemet.

  • @futuremason4301

No, I'm commenting on people passing judgment on newer music. Some sucks yeah, but it can't ALL suck and ultimately time will be the greatest test to see what pervades. Depeche Mode has sold relatively the same amount of music as Britney Spears, but which do you think people will look back at in 100 years and identify as being an actual contributor to music? I doubt it'll be the corporate propped-up pop princess.

  • @jmp51985 i gottcha

  • @jmp51985 Just 'cause someone has memories formed around their music doesn't mean they should judge anothers. I guess I'd think different 'cause I'm diverse with my musical taste. But no one's forced to listen to music they don't want to and they have the choice to listen to music they do want to listen to. So I feel there's no reason to judge modern music you aren't forced to listen to. (: If ya get what I mean.

  • No, I don't think it's pathetic at all. It just shows that you have good taste in music. :)

  • best music video for me during the 80's, best sound beat and use of acoustics instruments. up to now Drpech Mode istill is up to PAR.

  • Love this song, one of their best.

"the grabbing hands, grab all they can.."

  • why no comments ? is it because no on gets these lyrics, like I didn't until recently? yes it is a dance tune but whoever wrote it speaks to the older disillusioned audience - nice job
