  • dam danny white has to retreat 10 yards just to figure things out. what a pass rush by ny. relentless attack against a finesse offense.

  • Dallas was sorry then because they were dissing Dorsett for Walker.

  • they sucked because they had a 70 year old man trying to function as head coach and offensive and defensive coordinator in an age when the nfl had become a year round job.

  • that 70 yr old man still had what it took... he had 20 straight winning seasons... 17 straight yrs in the playoffs... produced many hall of famers

not to mention rebuilding the Cowboys for Jerry Jones by drafting, Nate Newton, Mark Tuenei, and Michael Irvin.

He also had Troy Aikman at Valley Ranch working him out before the draft. He was going for Aikman too...

There'sno doubt in my mind that he would have taken that team back to the top had Jones not fired him

    Landry rules!

  • First of all, Landry never drafted nobody. For the entirety of the Landry era Gil Brand had total and complete authority over the draft. Schramm handled the business and promotion end, Landry handled things on the field, and Brandt handled personnel and scouting, and there was little to no overlapping. 2nd Tuinei and Newton were busts until Jimmy Johnson drafted emmitt smith and hired norv turner, who implemented the zone blocking scheme that made em pro bowlers.

  • Landry had his hand in all aspects of the franchise.. Brandt worked for Landry essentially. Yeah he handled biz on the field therefor he knew who he wanted and Brandt helped him find it.

So what if Tueini and Newton didnt become pro bowlers til JJ....neither did Irvin... so Landry gets ZERO credit for getting these players? Youre insane.

  • that's simply factually incorrect. Brandt had autonomous authority over the draft. Landry might say "hey we need a LB this year" but Brandt decided which LB to pick, when, and from where. The only hand Landry had in personnel was cutting players who weren't up to snuff or trading malcontents like duane thomas and butch johnson. And this isn't some big secret, it is fairly common knowledge to anyone who paid even rudimentary attention to the cowboys at any point between 1960 and 1989.
