  • Carlos Kleiber = the art of conducting <3

  • Carlos Kleiber, der Mann mit dem Zauberstab <3

  • 3:30 wonderful

  • Kleiber's gestuality "draws" the music like no other.

  • Una delle più belle interpretazioni che abbia mai ascoltato, la sua gestualità è molto espressiva e comunicativa, veramente eccezzionale. Non butta via niente, tutto è definito.

  • Unfogettable Carlos Kleiber, genius, much loved, much missed. Admirable. So moving. So great.

  • which orchestra is it?

  • Although I have played this song, and heard it many times, the first time I saw this video is the first time that I actually _Heard_ it.

  • hey darmago......a brahms symphony a SONG? no offense but please....its just not at all a song...

  • Incredible!!

  • Haha, I love the out-of-sync feeling of the first 00.04 of this clip. How hard is it to get such an effect with live musicians? (It should be easy enough with CuBase or similar :)

Does anyone know how those measures are notated?

    I.e. rigid/ad lib., on-beat/off-beat etc.?

  • Gauteamus - The syncopation you enjoyed is triplets in the winds against straight rhythm in the violas, celli and timps. Nice-cup-of-tea 2 against 3! bit of jet lag in the wind crept in 12 bars later (24 secs) Great conductor though

  • It's not difficult in orchestral playing; but it's a lot more fun playing in such conflicting rhythms on piano... left hand in triplets against duplet or quadruplets in the right. Check Beethoven op. 15 first movement, development section for example. B'thvn has such figures frequently.

  • The greatist composer and the greatist conductor together, GREAT111

  • Brahms is my favourite composer. In his music I find a fellow soul. Please read Hans Gals book about Brahms and Your love for the man Brahms will grov ever stronger.

  • He got it from his father. Erich Kleiber was one of the great interpretive conductors of the romantic school, and was a fierce defender of new music. (Schoenberg, Berg et all) I am a sucker for Brahms. One of my favorite composers, and my all time favorite MAN among composers. hat a great soul he had as well as compositional talent.

  • BRAVO~

  • This is graet, we all expected that. But, which orchestre is it?

  • It's the Bavarian State Orchestra (Kleiber's favourite orchestra). Recording location is Munich, 1996.

  • Any chance someone can post the complete symphony?

  • i will!! tomorrow!!!.. it's the best version of the symphony... ever!

  • Nice... Well rounded tone, Which Orchestra is this?

  • WOW! What a conductor! What an Orchestra!

  • That is not a conducting stick he's waving-it's a magic wand!

  • I totally agree! Wow, he's really fantastic.

  • The magic is in his mind, not in his stick...

  • carlos kleiber has sido uno de los grandes. Gracias por estos momentos tan especiales MAESTRO !!!!!

  • Kleiber didnt conduct Brahms, he channeled Brahms!

  • Carlos Kleiber is the real deal

  • Probably the two best things to ever grace the musical world. Brahms 4th and Carlos Kleiber!

  • I fully agree. If You know the Kleiber version, You dont want to listen to any other. I bought my record about 25 years ago, and I still consider it the best I have ever heard

  • I bought it a month ago or so. It's one of my favourite recordings ever.

  • 誰か全曲アップしてくれないでしょうか?!

  • this is the best version i´ve ever heard...it has a plastic, an organic quality, an absolute control of the orchestra and above all, music!, just and pure music...

  • Remarkable really. He certainly asks a lot from his wind players-with superb results. A Furtwangler speed with long lines, incredible grace but, maybe, a little bloodless?? No rough edges--that's for sure. ( Funny comment about Mr. Burns!)

  • Just found out in Wikidedia that his productions of the Fifth and the Seventh (here) were with the VPO, and his Fourth was with the Bavarian State Orchestra. Prior to that, he was for years with the Bavarian State Opera.

He was born "Karl" in Germany, but his family fled the Nazis to Beunos Aires in 1935, hence he became "Carlos."

  • Kleiber is the Greatest!

He is much better than Karayan!

Brahms No.4 is the Best Piece and Here is the best combination....it would be the perfect if Kleiber conducted BPO!!!

  • The best piece ever.

    Great Kleiber.

    Almost like Karajan.

  • How much do conductors get paid?

  • The orchestra seems to be breathing in and out

  • As opposed to breathing sideways?

  • I guess I was trying to say he makes a piece of music

sound like a living entity. three dimensional. But I

am not a poet and don't have the ability to express with words what I mean.

  • Look at Minute 7 58. Amazing. Not Walken, maybe Mr. Burns, just great

  • Kleiber is extraordinary......

    When was this concert?

  • Kleiber was the most incredible conductor I've ever seen. Each and every one of his recordings that I heard are simply amazing. Such a tension and density, especially in this Brahms recording. Thank you very much, luvgod, for posting it!

  • He is an extraordinary conductor.

  • I have an incredible DVD of Kleiber conducting Brahms 2 with the Wiener Philharmonic. It is one of the most stunning performances, both visually and aurally, that I have seen or heard. The man is incredible.

  • i want moooooooooooooooooooooore~

  • Nice... Kleiber's DG performance of this is among my favorites for this symphony. He reminds me a bit of Christopher Walken.

  • Claudio Abbado is much more like Christopher Walken.

  • I think Kleiber's DG 4th is THE best. What a rich tone and the whole orchestra brings out the music completely.

  • "It was as if Homer himself came forth and recited 'The Iliad'"
