I had a hard time finding them in retail stores but found them in like a little vial at a pet supply store called Southern Agriculture. I'm sure they can be ordered on line in greater quantities though.
so lets say i want to keep the brine shrimp alive i used some really old eggs and didn't even expect them to hatch but some did not very many but some did how would i separate the eggs that didn't hatch and the eggs that did hatch from the baby brine shrimp? the brine shrimp are so thinly laid out that the water is not orange i have seen some baby brine shrimp though and i dont know how to separate them.
@rexlink1 virtually impossible. It is best to use a high hatch rate a brine shirmp. THis will help eliminate the shells sinking to the bottom with the brine shrimp.
@calirapqueen from what I've heard, some salt can be beneficial to fish by relieving stress and such but I've only seen examples with aquarium salt so just regular salt is still in question for me.. hope this helps
You the man. Followed it and 24 hour later witch is right now I have thousands of baby brine shrimps. This is definitely hatching brine shrimps for dummies, lol. If I can do it, anybody can following ur instructions. Once again, you are the man
Great vid man. I have used the steps you presented here and our brine shrimp hatchery has been feeding our African Cichlids till their bellies are fat and round. Thanks for the video, it worked great. From all of us at tankdwellersdotcom, thanks
Hey that was really cool man thanks for sharing that. I just got a can of eggs and I have some small fry to feed. I knew it would be on youtube so thanks for the help.
@narahalo97 When small fish first hatch from their eggs, they are larvae or wrigglers. Then, when they have absorbed their yolk sacs, they become free-swimming fry. The young of livebearing fishes pass through the larval stage before they are born, so they are born as free-swimming fry. Hope this helps.
@WTFsia92 there is a reason you shouldnt use an airstone. i remember reading something about if the airbubbles are too small they can get caught on the brine shrimp and kill them.
@walsallcrew You use a norrow bottom because as the air moves the brine shrimp eggs you do not want any "corners" where some cysts may not get moved from the aeration.
when the baby brine shrimp hatched, how long does it lives in the bottle?if we do not feed em..and when they hatched,do we still need to use the air filter?
i dont understand why so many comments of people growing them out. they are best when first hatched and they still have the egg sack still attached. good video . you need to let you viewers know that the fresh hatched are best for anything eating them
@MrBostonJoey I agree 100%...freshly hatched brine shrimp beat adult brine shrimp for feed hands down. I have tried to tell people that, but they still want to grow them to adulthood!??!?! Thanks for the comment.
wow i like how your tutorial i think i going to need to do that for my fry than because i never know how to make fry shrimp until now that is hella tight so where do you know where to go buy those shrimp at anyways like just a jar so you can home made by yourself
@choj5508 brine shrimp only survive for about 24 hours (1 day). Any longer than that and they'll die naturally, so I suggest only hatching as many as you need for one feeding session.
@KengThor14 no you don't NEED baking soda; that's just to make your shrimp hatch faster.
Thanks for the tutorial! I tried to feed a few little newly hatched babies to my adult bettas but they didn't even see them :-( Can I just let them grow out in the bottle? I have yeast to feed them.. do you have any idea how much???
Where I live is hot at the moment and I can't keep my water below 32*C. Will they hatch at all at this temperature or would I just be wasting my time? thanks
I have been wondering what to feed these BBS. I have a few guppies that are very picky eaters when it comes to dry food but they love live food. I want to raise these shrimp to adulthood but it seems like it will take a separate tank in itself to do this. Is there a different option? If you do raise them to adulthood then what do you feed them? I cannot get my hands on spirulina algae (besides maybe what are in algae wafers or flake food) so is there another option? Thanks!
Good informative vid ! Done the Hatching side of thing but would like to grow them onto Adulthood, Can you give advise on how to transfer them into a bigger Vessel and does the water need to be the same as hatchery i:e Salt water ? Didn't use a heater in the Hatchery ( room Temp ) so i assume the growing on tank should be the same ?
Food for the Shrimp to feed on, Spirulina and how much/often ?
Just wanted to mention that adult fish would really prefer adult brine shrimp, so after the straw method is used instead of going directly to your fish tank with them, place them in a seperate tank (At least 10gal) with good circulation and a sponge filter and the standard amount of salt per 10 gal. and feed them wheat flour or yeast! They'll get rather large after 2-3 weeks, then use a (brine shrimp net) to collect them, put them in a cup of water from your FISH tank, then dump the cup in tank.
@MyFishCare101 You would want 20 ppt or is you use a hydrometer 1.020. Yes brine shrimp live in bodies of salt water, such as The Great Salt Lake, Utah.
Can I hatch brine shrimp, and then feed them to my fish in my saltwater tank?I heard that the water, brine shrimp and eggs can carry nasty bacteria that will kill my saltwater fish?
@the55gal Good question. The companies that process and package the brine shrimp eggs are inspected by the USDA and are required to disinfect the egg. Therefore the egg is usually very clean if it is of the Great Salt Lake origin. The only contaminates or bacteria would be from one’s own hatching process...or foreign egg.
I think you might want to make your finger wet and keep the pipe vertical, when you're harvesting, then it might not drip out that much

Okay, I favorited this video, because it's extremely explanatory, however I still have some questions:
1: What PSI should the pump be? would 8-12 be okay? (if not I have another one that's weaker)
2: Where can I get the eggs?
3: should I use a heat lamp, or would a regular desk lamp work (What one is healthier?)
I'm planning on breeding my Betta, so I want to make sure that the food is healthy to keep the fry healthy

i have the same setup as you but they wont hatch help plz PS: im using iodized salt does it matter
timp01081995 1 year ago
@timp01081995 Non-iodized salt is the best. You may also have a old or poor batch of egg.
saltlakebrineshrimp 1 year ago
@timp01081995 There are many variables that could cause this. I would for sure start with the salt...do not use Iodized Salt.
