Holy Price! I get down on my knees to this goddess. What other singer can sing an aria like this at her age? Of course, she is not the Price of her true glory days. She doesn't shade her voice the way she used to. But it's still incredible. The only thing I hold against La Price is that she didn't appear too often - I only saw her twice at the Met. Maybe that's what kept her in such great shape - she didn't sing constantly.
@wotan10950 i think she is just blessed, coz she did sing constantly, even though it wasnt on an operatic stage, she did a lot of concerts and recitals
If only I had been introduced to opera earlier, I would have been 12 at the time...and the hall's only minutes away o.O . Amazing post and stunning as always. Thank you for sharing ^_^
I'm sure we all agree that Ms. Price left the opera stage too early. Her voice is truly 'the voice of the century'. Just to clarify a couple of comments in regards to her. She was born Feb. 10, 1927 which would have made her 58 during this particular performance. What a voice!
NO, NO, NO then check the dates because if this was in 95 I met her in 92when she came to my school a few years earlier and she told me she was 65 then.
I LOVE Price and I LOVE this rendition but, realistically speaking, why would I want to listen to a recording from her later years when I have all the BEAUTIFUL, ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY STUNNING stuff from her absolute prime when she was at her vocal, technical and acting prime?
What ever recording you would want to listen to is totally your choice.
It seems as though you have an issue with aging. It is a part of life.
RCA was not recording her recitals in the early 80's when her voice was still in top form. They would promote them but not issue the video or audio recordings. I have a hunch that they are waiting for her to pass away before releasing most of those concerts.
You can thumbs me down all you want; aging is a natural part of life, of course.
Nonetheless, I'm certain a swimming fan wouldnt want to see Ian Thorpe racing at 60.
I deeply enjoy Price's singing regardless of period but, all the same, tell me WHY you would want to hear (for instance) an Ernani from a 68yr old Price when you have FAR, FAR, FAR superior recordings from her earlier years? IMO, I don't understand why you have an issue with RCA not recording her when she was almost 70.
I have been reading a few comments of late that seem to enjoy the idea that great masters of singing are no longer relevant to the musical world today. My response LISTEN TO THIS! The end note is better than any spinto soprano can muster today. Kind regards,

@mayebelle81
Oh Dio, Dio, fa ch'io muoia;
Che la calma può darmi morte sol.
Invan la pace qui sperò quest'alma
In preda a tanto duol.
Misero pane, a prolungarmi vieni
La sconsolata vita . . . Ma chi giunge?
Chi profanare ardisce il sacro loco?
Maledizione! Maledizione! Maledizione!

Pace, pace, mio Dio!
Cruda sventura
M'astringe, ahimè, a languir;
Come il di primo
Da tant'anni dura
Profondo il mio soffrir.

This is great...but what a waste!
Why was RCA not recording this legend during this time?
It makes me very mad! Her voice was in top form. They just did not want to pay her!!!!
