@pongcartel Alex look online for Sensei Chuck Merriman, he just retired somewhere in the valley near u He is a very respected 9 th Dan from Jundokan Okinawa. Talk to him. The things that I see in ur kata are minor but when I see it, it is a glaring error. As it would be at an international event. Set your sites higher my friend, I know that u can do it!! :o
Not trying to dis you my friend, but what will you have after training 40 years? A bunch of videos such as this to look back upon or a deep knowledge of one or two karate styles with the many applications (bunkai) of the various kata. I watched your Nipaipo kata and I see a decent job but some hiccups of some finer moves such as the opening/closing techniques and overall timing. See:=RRXUtr0cQ7s
You could be a lot better if you explore the world of karate. You have a lot of natural talent but open tournaments, or regional tournaments should not be you goal. You should set your sites on international tournaments of this caliber: =qoQbh9XF7qw Find someone that belongs to the USNKF in your area, attend seminars, learn their rules, and bring back the stuff to your dojo to share. It will only challenge yourself and your students to become better. Gambatte, JP
@NewEnglandBudo The type of competitions that you're talking about can get to be quite an investment though. Perhaps when my school is a bit more successful I may be able to afford them haha. I'll get to explore one of these days but for now I'm building a means to.
@NewEnglandBudo No offense taken, I respect your opinions. I have many kata that I've yet to perform or post. You have not yet seen a kata from my original style. I agree about time served but I could not disrespect my hanshi by turning down my promotion a second time. Perhaps he has another perspective about me and what I can do for the martial arts. This video is just to consolidate my account for fun and am learning video editing. Perhaps I'll post chinto for you soon my friend. ;)
Obviously a very athletic person. Some simple combinations that work in open tournaments. But would not be considered a scoring technique in the international or even the smaller regional competitions using USANKF rules. "Shihan"? He is a child in the martial arts world. Perhaps he may qualify in another 15-20 years of more serious training in karate from a deeper perspective of karate.
