  • Why cut the budget if there are more fires in the city?

  • ... the roof and exterior are sheet-steel. I have a small barn built in this manner.

I live in a rural area- These types of steel structures are used everywhere.

Some have wood frames(as mine does) some steel.

I live in western New York State, USA.

  • smoothbore2004 and mabas21 both are correct idk wat u brits do over there but as far as both departments im on this is nothing. this isnt even a bon fire compared to how we roll... id rather be stuck in structure with "wood" and "plastic" then in one with concrete and steel beams at least we no were getting out not getting screwed

  • When will the Americans learn that wood and plastic burn very well and stop using those materials when building residential properties. Nearly every time we see house fires in the USA the property is totally destroyed yet here in Britain we build with bricks or concrete and very few properties are totally destroyed.

  • Actually this building was made of steel so I don't really know what you are talking about. We do use brick, but not everyone can afford brick due to the fact it adds 20 percent to the total cost of the structure. This way here in America we have options so people can own a house

  • Just which bit of the building was made of steel. Was it the nails or screws holding the WOODEN beams together and holding the PLASTIC sheets to WOODEN beams.

It cannot have been steel beams, as they were burning far to well and the walls cannot have been steel sheets has you can see the flames through them.

  • Oh I gotcha you, everything is built in the highest quality there and there is absolutely no use of wood there in Britain. You are so full of shit!

  • I did not say that "everything is built in the highest quality there and there is absolutely no use of wood there in Britain". Far from it in fact. But atleast when buildings catch fire here they are generally not just a little pile of wood ash and lumps of congealed plastic after the fire is put out.

  • i jsut read the original comment but every class i have ever taken they have stressed how plastics these days burn hotter and produce more darker smoke. but its cheaper thats why it happens. i agree though brick and concrete would be nice but here in ny its hard to find houses like that and they are being bult everywhere. we just have to be smart and safe out there. it is jsut property.

  • in response to GANESHKALI comment.

  • @ganeshkali In large parts of the US, masonry buildings are for people with a death wish. I know you like to bitch about your fog, but over here we have real problems -- earthquakes.

  • as always ed you prevail and as always when iam never out there again. love the vid man very nice thats really nice

  • Great video, but man you guys need bigger hoses lol. Most of your videos are of GFD pulling up to some rockin' fires and pulling 1-3/4" lines. Big fire means big water. Stay safe and keep the vids coming.

  • That was far from big fire...we have 2 1/2-3 in. we use it when we need it.

  • well done!

  • Hey Bone I understand what your saying but like mabas said we do this day in and day out. My old captain always said you can effectively be safe but you can be too safe to be effective. Plus there really is no reason to wear an airpack while your outside. We consider this a big trash fire, Well open through the roof, like I said a big trash fire.

  • BUY THIS MAN A DRINK AND YOUR OLD CAPTIN

  • I`ll drink to that!

  • well like alot of the old timers i know your old capt. will prolly have cancer along with you if you dont wear an SCBA. "dont breath that shit in"!!!!!!!!

  • well like alot of the old timers i know your old capt. will prolly have cancer along with you if you dont wear an SCBA. "dont breath that shit in"!!!!!!!!

  • Not meaning to criticize, but the guy with the under-pressurized handline who is standing well inside the collapse zone (with no SCBA) is lucky he wasn't buried by that burning wall. Meanwhile, someone else (without bunker gear) is pulling the wall down right next to him!

    Good shots of the fire!

    Bone

  • Well I guess I am just as guilty, no gear in the collapse zone. These guys fight fires like this day in and day out. I don't catch everyone. Trust me they know what they are doing and would trust them with my life

  • No disrespect intended. In my department we have to do things by the book or face the consequences.

    Bone

  • I do understand what your saying, many departments including Chicago take the scba off when it seems safe. I see both sides as having good arguments, but since establishment GFD has lost 9 Firefighters due to line of duty injuries. For a department that runs 24/7 fighting fires in run down buildings they have my respect and know when to wear it and when not to. It's like anything else, every department does things their way. Which I respect

  • Nice video, lots of fire.

  • great video!!!!
