This is the first arcade game I played. I was around 3 or 4 years old and my father had to get the arcade owner to bring over a stool to sit on. My dad would work the gas while I steered the car.
Wow, John. Dude, you're living my dream! I think you may have inspired me to clean up & make some room in my garage (add heat/air out there, as well!), to get some cabs, some day! I have my MAME in my office right now, I think my wife may finally allow it to move into the living room! Great vids, congrat's on your awesome setup! If you're ever out west (or at CES in Jan), I'd love to meet up with you!
I am in the process of opening a 1980's style arcade in Las Vegas. where do you buy your games at and if anything major goes wrong do you have someone to fix them for you?
Great video, John! I remember back in the late 90s to early 2000s when the arcade existed at the local mall, they had a cockpit Turbo. That was one of the only games I would play there. They ended up selling it for $200 when the arcade closed. I wanted it so badly, but didn't have room for it. I cried that day.
I'm playing Yakuza 4 right now and just noticed that the steering wheel in a car in that game is on the right side, so I think you may be on to something there. Until you mentioned it, though, I never thought about that.
I have a Colecovision, but I never bought Turbo. I did buy Slither, which means I have the trackball. But no steering wheel.
What I do have though is the Turbo board game by Milton Bradley. Yes, believe it or not, they actually made a board game version of this. Complete with four little Formula One race cars and an Ambulance.
Never played Turbo when I was young, but I do know the game. Pretty hard, but a lot of fun to play.
Such an awesome collection you have there. You won't believe how jealous I am right now (although, if I saw your electrical bill I probably wouldn't be) :-)
Keep it up, you put a big smile on my face whenever you upload a new video.
I felt so stupid on Saturday when I met you.I think I've only seen a few pictures of you and I couldn't match the voice with the person. Most of the videos I've watch have been your arcade room tours and game reviews and I hardly ever see your face. When you told me you had a Simpson's Pinball Party that should have been a dead giveaway.
I had wanted to do a review of Richie's Japanese Monaco GP Cocktail Table, but it was not meant for a 6'1 person.
Picking up the second version of the upright this weekend. Looks like a cabaret version.

Turbo reminds me a lot of Enduro on the Atari 2600. Since Turbo came out before Enduro do you think Enduro drew some inspiration for this game?

How to go very far, just play on low speed. You will not crash as often, and you will get a high score.

John, might you try your luck at this again, making it to 40 cars w/o crashing - the 2nd time around (you know, extended play)?

this game wouldn't sound as cool if it were called "compressed air forced into the combustion chamber"

Not my fave arcade racer but it is quite historic for both the arcade game itself and later the port to the home system.
One of these years I will make it out to Pax East.

I actually didn't care much for Turbo back in the '80s. It is still a great find though.

Love my Turbo. You'd get higher scores if you use the gas peddle. By switching to low you don't score as quickly as you do in high.

You picked up Turbo for 75 bucks?! JEEEEEZ!

Jon, your appearance on AGG is still their best podcast. You set the bar very, very for future podcasters.
