All companies should fund their pension committments up front. They are like "pay" and that is sacrosanct, not something to put off funding until tomorrow. As for this absurd attempt to drive the postal service in to private hands, another matter indeed, but the funding of pensions is a clear fiscal obligation, where people can take vouchers instead of empty promises.

@cheekieweekie You are so right! Because PRE-FUNDING its FUTURE retiree health care benefits. This is a 75 year liability that has to be paid in 10 years. The Postal Service makes a payment of approximately $5.5 billion on September 30 at the end of every fiscal year to meet this obligation. Yeah every corporation should do this right?! I mean right? BUT I'm glad that you don't want the USPS in private hands.
