Actually, you can run power football out of a spread formation. Ohio State has done that rather routinely. While the spread formation is supposed to be all about "spreading" the defense out wide, it's still important in the Big 10 to be able to run between the tackles, in or out of a spread formation.

Quick, name the last conventional spread team to WIN the Big 10 outright. The spread doesn't work here up North once the thermometer takes a nosedive, unless you have a power run game too.
