Im fine with getting thumps down with this but when i played this game it felt so mindless. Like sometimes the controls were sluggish and doing the homing attack feels so wrong. and they were to generous with the lives. Im not trolling i like sonic alot but this didn't feel like a classic sonic game

Plus it's a game that both classic and modern fans can enjoy because well it has both classic and modern Sonic and both play the way fans remember them. Should of got a 5/10 this game was bland, broken and boring. SEGA has looked at these issues and they said that they will fix them in Episode 2, so here's me hoping.

It was long awaited, and as a lifelong Sonic fan, I was very disappointed. The physics were horrid, the controls were unresponsive, the zones were not fitted to the iDevice screen, and the collision detection was almost non-existent. Looking at the game, I thought as if it was a cheesy fan-made rip off. The resolution was awful, and the sprites were grainy.

Actually, the Casino and Metropolis levels are inspired by Sonic 2, the Green Hill levels inspired by both Sonic 1 and 2, and the water levels and Special Stages are inspired by Sonic 1. There are enemies from Sonic 3 and Knuckles in the casino, as well.

@LittleMichaelz Exactly! I mean in the previous games they had a build up meaning the levels before were pretty hard and the final boss complemented it. The lack of modern-day originality in the Sonic series is appalling. Just how many times can you milk the freakin' nostalgia cow? If I see one more "reenactment" of Green Hill Zone or an old boss fight, I'm losin' it.

@IMmephiles Adventure 2 is hard, but it feels right, like it's a fair challenge that actually requires skill to overcome rather than being cheap and annoying. Secret Rings is also hard, but I found the challenge in that game to come more from flaws in the control scheme. Also, if you never played Adventure 2, what are you waiting for? It might just be my favourite Sonic game, and you should definitely try it out.

the different zones are WAY way too similar to the ones from the previous sonics, especially the last one, the robotnik factory like one. what a lack of imagination from the creators! maybe the next sonic will be more imaginative, apart from that, game looks GREAT

All of the bosses in this game are laughably easy versions of boss battles from another sonic game aside from the last boss. The game is also short and the level design and music is bland.

What a huge disapointment they did not make it 2 player and another huge let down that there is no 2 player battle. This was the thing I liked most about Sonic 2. It could have been great fun over xbox live. It feels like the developers have been extremly lazy and just wanted to cash in on the classic sonic fever. The graphics are not very impressive compared to other platform games on the console. I would probably score it 4.5/10

The lack of modern-day originality in the Sonic series is appalling. Just how many times can you milk the freakin' nostalgia cow? If I see one more "reenactment" of Green Hill Zone or an old boss fight, I'm losin' it.
This game shouldn't be called "Sonic 4"; it has no continuity with the classics. It should just be called what it is: "An attempt to blind you with nostalgia so that you won't notice our otherwise obvious lack of genuine effort." Unfortunately, that's too long of a title.

@MrShotgun175 I UNDERSTAND that, but he gave a MINUS for the game having a tough boss, which seems unfair for the whole review. At least the game actually has a tough boss (I've never played it, though). He should have put in, "UNFAIR LAST BOSS." There is a difference between "tough" and "unfair."
He complained about the game being too easy sometimes and then complained about the game being too hard at the end. I can understand why there was a complaint there, but at least there is a challenge.

The boss being unfair in this game is something that I can understand, but at least there is a challenge, and at least the boss is difficult. The reviewer complained about the game being easy, and when there is an actual challenge, he complains about it being difficult. Unfair boss that is out of place in the game, I understand. Difficult boss that poses as an actual challenge, I don't get.

@jet4212006 Unleased's battle was easy, 06 was hard because the game was so broken, and yeah 2 and 3 had hard levels, but it's not a matter of the battle itself being hard, it's that there's such a difficulty spike that's annoying.

@IMmephiles Adventure 2 is hard, but it feels right, like it's a fair challenge that actually requires skill to overcome rather than being cheap and annoying. Secret Rings is also hard, but I found the challenge in that game to come more from flaws in the control scheme. Also, if you never played Adventure 2, what are you waiting for? It might just be my favourite Sonic game, and you should definitely try it out.

the different zones are WAY way too similar to the ones from the previous sonics, especially the last one, the robotnik factory like one. what a lack of imagination from the creators! maybe the next sonic will be more imaginative, apart from that, game looks GREAT

It's ONE GAME that i don't even hate, i just think IGN is stupid for building it up like a 3d Mario game with SMB3 quality. 4. I guess you'd hate to know how I feel about SMW compared to Mario 3. Sega sega sega, sequels are supposed to be better than their predecessors, or at least on par. I'd much rather play Sonic 3 than this, I'd rather play Sonic 2, Maybe even Sonic 1.
All of the bosses in this game are laughably easy versions of boss battles from another sonic game aside from the last boss. The game is also short and the level design and music is bland.
Oh and before a fanboy starts bitching at me, I beat this game and got all chaos emeralds,Im qualified to say my 2 cents.

What a huge disapointment they did not make it 2 player and another huge let down that there is no 2 player battle. This was the thing I liked most about Sonic 2. It could have been great fun over xbox live. It feels like the developers have been extremly lazy and just wanted to cash in on the classic sonic fever. The graphics are not very impressive compared to other platform games on the console. I would probably score it 4.5/10
