  • Nice video but thanks for not posting which tool you used... I see this is a Grand Cherokee your installing the harmonic balencer on. The 4.0 engine.

  • i have the same kit that i just rented from autozone. now i know how to use it lol thanks. Did you have to remove the pin before sliding the new harmonic balancer on? then slide the pin back on once the new HB was installed? thats what the guy at autozone told me to do. i could not even get the new HB to hold itself up on the crank shaft like the old one. could i have a wrong/bad part?

  • all u got to do is tap it on evenly with a hammer

  • @brucekirk89

The amount of force needed to do this would destroy the engine internals before the harmonic balancer is all the way on. In other words do not hammer it on!

  • @FordGTGuy You are full of BS.I do it smacking it on with a hammer with no damage at all.

  • @wafrederick

Take a field trip down to a local Dealership or Shop and see how they install a harmonic balancer, I guarantee you will not see someone pull out a hammer to install it.

  • @FordGTGuy I hit them on with a hammer with no damage, then install the crank pulley bolt if there is enough threads and run the bolt down with an impact.Balancer is installed and there is no need for the install tool.

  • do not beat the balancer wheel on the camshaft with a metal hammer, its hard on the bearings. just rubber hammer lightly and let the bolt tighten the wheel on

  • Yes, it's true, you can rent those harmonic balancer install/removal kits, but be aware, those kits won't work with all cars. The two (and sometimes three) tapped holes for pulling the pulley may not fit the bolts provided in the kit, but the kit can still be used if you go buy your own bolts. The problem I had is on the install, where the threaded adapter didn't fit either and I was screwed. . .can't just run out and buy a thread adapter to work with a rental kit.

  • does your engine vibrate now?

  • @AtownEvo Just the normal vibrations of an engine. It's been running well for about 30,000 miles later. Thanks for watching

  • You can rent it from Autozone (probably Oreily's or Napa too) for pretty cheap.

  • where can i get that tool??
