er....having been 16 in 1977 you have to look at all this in context !!! it meant something then, however badly and clumsily done it did at least turn some of the youth towards revolutionary politics...which is no bad thing!!!
mick could not write a lyric to save himself ... what was that line? stay free. I practiced in my room ... LOL ... step lightly ... stay free ... there is no free ...
hey fuck, I don' t have the time of day to address your bible on the Clash ... (personally) I hated and still do the cLASH'S 1ST piece of garbage ... they were just copying what they heard from the ramones ... so that was not experimental at all just a rip off ...
'78 - '82 = 7 lp sides ... almost 2 cd's a year
just because paul played reggae on basically every song is not a question I have an answer for ... He has accounted for this statement in books ...
wow ... must have worked. sort of like ALICE IN CHAINS and smack or PANTERA and heroin ... or the flower children and ACID ... are you going on record as saying that, "DRUGS NEVER OPENED UP CHANNELS IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC?"
sandinista is like husker du's ZEN ARCADE ...
mick is still probably living with his MOM ... I think she wrote a lot of his melodies while they sang in the shower together ... B.A.D. = Michael Jackson ... just no glove.
@mushroomheadsquish "mick is still probably living with his MOM" Actually he's touring with Gorillaz, as is Paul.....Mouth open insert foot!
I agree with many of your points, although a punk band with the suss to embrace reggae in 1977, is not something to be sniffed at...And I personally don't think The Ramones can be mentioned in the same sentence as The Clash...But that's just me
...of theband, mick jones was the real musical genious there, hard to hear but it's true, strummr was a powerhouse when he was swingin' but it was mick that came up with those great melodies. too bad strummer could handle the money, could have put to a lot better use than 'cut the crap'. the socio political stuff was happning in there, and they were doing 'world music' b4 peter gabriel even new what it meant, but i just think it's wrong to call the clash 'experimental music' even if as 'people'
you could argue that some songs [like radioclash, rock the casbah, magnifucent 7, overpowered by funk and such stuff as being 'experimentak' but i have always thought them to be sarcasm and mocking trends in western music [meaning us] but i find that a difficult thing to say because it was stuff like that, and combat rock that lead to the the collapse of the band, and hense, lack of directing [by joe strummer] simply because of the accident of being successfull, but strummer was only the balls..
making tons of friends sqishy! keep up the good work! hahaha
by the way, the clash were never experimental, only an idiot would think that. lol they were a garage band that fell in with the rock steady 'invasion' in uk in the early '80's. considered to be 'UK 77'ers [that would be punk] who liked bob marley and other offbeat music [refering the the strumming technic of] Reggae. rastafarians and smoking weed had a lot to do with it [does that really sound very experimental? well? does it...dude?
Hey, I picked up the new Clash live at Shea Stadium... I don't know how they got the sound so perfect... It is tremendous... bought the book too 49.99... get both...
A classic tune ruined.
