@IMFDB that gun is not made to/can't accept surpressors but yes you would need subsonic ammo but then the semi auto wouldnt work. the new m107a1 is made to accept surpressors but this movie was before those came out

That gun was not intended for people, it was designed to pierce armor and buildings, something that can punch a hole through a tank would tear a person into pieces. Limb? Severed at the point of impact. Head? For the most part it would have exploded.

The caliber is just as accurate as any other rifle. With match-grade ammo, a few shooters have been able to put 10 rounds within a 10-inch circle, in other words, Minute-of-angle accuracy which is more than adequate.
The round is incredibly powerful, but terminal effects are overstated in the movie. An impact would be gruesome to say the least, but wouldn't throw someone 20 feet.

It's not entirely accurate though. The M82 wouldn't really throw people 20 feet back, especially on a headshot, it just obliterates whatever it hits. Yes, it'd throw you, but not like this movie lol.
Don't get me wrong, this movie kicked ass and was a lot more realistic than other war movies.
