Some Wudang styles such as Chen Tai Chi have been influenced by Honan Shaolin as their founders have studied at the temple. However (as you said) Wudang historically focused on the Taoist principles of the Chinese martial arts as the Northern internal styles such as Bagua, Hsing-Yi, Liu Ho Ba Fa etc. Shaolin(North&South),Chang Chuan, Cha Quan, Liu He, Chuo Jiao, Tang Lang etc. were developed on Buddhist as well as ethnic traditions(such as the Hui Chinese Muslims).
@TheMartialartsJedi, Wudang has had some Honan Shaolin influences in their styles. However, traditionally Wudang/Norther KF Styles focuses firstly on internal (soft chi) strenght development, then as one progresses he learns external(hard chi) then a balance of the two. Southern Shaolin styles were developed in times of rebellions and fighters had to learn to fight quickly so the external (hard chi) was taught first as opposite to the Wudang(internal) and Northern Kung Fu styles.
Just my own opinion, but in modern times, the Shao Lin Temple seems to be leaning towards "acrobatics" for showiness and popularity, while Wu Dang is adhering more to traditional styles that are more practical and true to history. You dont have to do a triple backflip and the splits to knock someones head off, if you get my meaning.
@FURognar Here's a link to the wikipedia page for it. It's an awesome movie, if you can find it: en(dot)wikipedia(dot)org(back slash)wiki(back slash)Shaolin_and_Wu_Tang
Liu-Chia-Hui - the greatest martial artist ever bar none. Some of his best fight scenes are done with Wang Leung Wei. Also many of his movies have 2 titles according to when and where released.
Wu Tang aint nothing to fuck with

@TheMartialartsJedi I disagree.
Both forms - Shaolin and Wudang, follow similar principles of movement, and share the same principles of their internal aspects.
My Dad taught me Shaolin, and I learnt Wudang soon after...and my Dad is still helping me with it even though it's a different form.
All martial art becomes the same after x level of training.
Both have an incredibly powerful internal aspect, though Shaolin is focus...Wudang is direction...and how similar those to are.

Wudang and Shaolin actually compliment each other.. Without Shaolin, Wudang wouldn't be as great as it currently is, vice-versa

It's the same, just sometimes translations and 'pin-yin' can be different at times.
Just like how regular Chinese can sometimes have many different ways of spelling in English :)
