i love this movie and its amazing but it makes me wonder; Would that many grown men be so heartless to bet on the life of a little kid right in front of them? I know that they're prisoners of war and war changes a person, but my God. The kid is like 12 here and they're disappointed he survived cuz they lost something like a harmonica.

@orenji196 No, they wouldn't. And that's just one of the many reasons I don't care for this film at all. It seemed like Spielberg only cared about how to throw together moments of tension, drama, irony & poignancy, and completely scrapped the idea of making a good, believable story.

@TroyOi Well in Spielberg's defense, this did somewhat occur in the book, Empire of the Sun, as well. It was because the men had become so used to seeing dead bodies, including children, that they were prepared to see Jim die. They were basically detached to it. And because the book was based on the author's real experiences during WW2, i kind of understand this better.

This was an amazing performance by Christian,and to see Ben Stiller as a teen,is awesome,and weird at the same time.How ironic that 23 years later,they both have a movie in the theaters,a comedy and a dark sci fi.

Steven Spielberg is responsible for launching the careers of so many child actors,Christian,Drew Barrymore,Ben Stiller,etc. I'm hoping that one day,he gather all of his former child stars together in one movie.That would be awesome!!! I can so see Christian,Drew,and Ben in a comedy :D
