  • -What did you do today?

-Eh, nothing really. A talking dog just taught me how to choose the thumbnail of a Youtube video.

  • @Davve941018 Pretty funny, eh? Woof!!

  • @VideoLeadsOnline actually no

  • why doesnt youtube just let us make our OWN thumbnail

  • @GamerKidVideos Because too many people would abuse it. Putting in thumbnails that get attention but may have nothing to do with the video was a common practice. "Pretty" or "Seductive" thumbnails would get more views for a video, the more views the better chance to "make money off a video"... the less YouTube can document for its advertisers, the view count vs. the real value of a video.

  • @VideoLeadsOnline They could develop a method to count the time in site against the clickable content. I don't finish to watch videos I don't care, why to do that if you can jump to the next thing. or Rate, even counting pluses is comments, ratings, time on site, views count, linking, etc, all those could tell you if a video is good, no mather the thumbnail, because either way, people is finding ways to do it, at this point, is the same thing.

  • @lynxbits Interesting comments, but I am speaking of user behavior. No matter what other ways can be used to validate the value of a video, users use Thumbnail Images to determine if they want to watch or not.

  • SUP DOG!! :p

  • god that dog annoys me

  • ~How to choose your own Thumbnail 2011~

I've made a video just for you guys, in a easy & organized way.

    Video tutorial: watch?v=Z0X2FyRl-9s

    General steps are:

    (1) Add timecode (timer) to buttom layer and add thumbnail at exact millisecond.

    (2) Add thumbnail near the end (percent locations).

Examples & Proof: My 6 latest vids.

Everything, and more, is explained in the video (Video tutorial: watch?v=Z0X2FyRl-9s).

Thumb this comment up, as it pretty much answers 90% of the questions here.

  • 0:09 Thumbnail Lol o3o

  • that music is right from your dad's porn collection.

  • Google - Youtube Thumbnail Calculator

  • @mtstutorials Sorry, but that calculation method no longer works to get youtube thumbnail positions... it stopped working back in 2008!

  • @VideoLeadsOnline

I use it for my other channel "timewasternews" works everytime without fail check out the videos on that channel they all are thumbnail tricked

  • @mtstutorials I checked out the videos on that channel, and since you leave the still image up so long in your videos, then sure the basics of capturing a thumbnail near the center of the video are still valid... most people, however, do not want to leave a still image for that long in the middle of their video, so for most people this will not work. But thanks for the advice.

  • @VideoLeadsOnline

I see what you mean any cool videos i like the dog keep up the good work

  • But with video like from Tobuscus or ShayTards, the thumbnail that is there isnt in the video AT ALL. thats what I want to know what to do.

  • @WhatThePerson They can do that because they are a "YouTube Partner"... when you are a Partner, you can add in whatever thumbnail image you like... that is an option only offered to Partners.

  • I've done a lot of tests, and just about got it figured out. I'm getting ready to write a program so everyone can use.

  • the dog is from "CyberLink - YouCam"!!!

  • @TheChaosVids Nope! I know nothing of "CyberLink - YouCam" the dog is my dog... took some photos, made lots of modifications in photoshop and very slowly added one screen at a time to make Victor "talk".

  • Hey i have 2.19 video... in what time to put pisture? pls respond

  • @Vuck0100 I sent you a private message

  • All YouTube has to do is allow us to pick any shot of our video it's that simple and they don't let us do that. Sometimes I just get stupid thumbnails

  • Love labs. If anyone lives in FL please consider a rescue lab.

  • WTF a talking dog, just when u think uve seen it all =\

  • what's the song??

  • @PipoRuizTV The song was from iMovie 08. I've moved on to iMovie 09 and it is no longer there, so I can't tell you what it is anymore, sorry!

  • @VideoLeadsOnline is that free/

  • Bait and Switch! This video does not deliver what is promised! You have to go some other website and watch some other video to learn the trick. Waste of time.

  • Hey Were Did You Get The Talking Dog? And 4 How Much?

  • @MrHead1972 I made my talking dog using photoshop and imovie, eventually added a green background and started over, so Victor the Video SEO Hound could be used in other environments. Took a lot of time and effort, but I love Victor! So it was worth it.

  • Thanks for the tips Victor. The Thumbnail actually is a huge issue. You will get a lot more views if you have an attractive thumbnail. I have tried to put the picture right in the middle of the video but I always seem to miss. I will keep trying. On some videos I just choose one background that I want to show up and use that for most of the video.

  • I should feed you a treat for being smart and by the way,I know how you make the puppy look like that. You used Crazy talk

  • Comment removed

  • VICTOR THE VIDEO SEO HOUND YOU ARE SO CUTE AND HANDSOME AND SMART LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! ruff ruff!

  • GREAT VIDEO! I feel dumb for not figuring that out myself. GREAT VIDEO!

  • LOOOOOOL nice dogggg duuude nice video!

  • Thank you puppy!

  • you and your web site sucks

  • @sam14215 his website doesn't suck. His website is really helpful.Maybe you didn't read all of the notes for you to understand!!!

  • Cool, m33lad is, well, not cool. I learned how to get a good photo for my youtube videos, and this is very important to me. THanks

  • but how do you know what time to set a image?

  • @ChaseDominyTv I give the time settings for 1:30 videos on various hosting sites on my main website. The links are in the description (they are not allowed here in the comments).

  • @VideoLeadsOnline I really trust you now.all you have to do is split the video in half and put the image between the video unless when you capture the video, set off to 0.01 to make it kinda flash like yours. All you have to do is download Cyberlink Power Director or others to make it.Thx for the comment.

  • @shooterman100ps3 just look at his old videos

  • OMG its a talking dog

  • your website sucks bud!! No one is goanna read a essay for a small thing like this but hey good luck

  • @m33lad I guess i messed up. Nobody wants to figure out how to make a better YouTube Thumbnail Image, eh? Well some people think it is interesting and don't mind reading up on it, but thanks for your comment anyways... its all part of YouTube!

  • very cute dog

  • @certi5cute Victor the Video SEO Hound told me to tell you "thanks for the compliment"!

  • @shooterman100ps3 That's right... and do you know why? Because He is a PARTNER! The flash trick is needed by all of us who are not YouTube Partners! If you read through the comments or the description on this video you will see this trick is for the normal folks... the non-partner users of YouTube.

  • Thanks!

  • Good explanation on adding still shots... when you gonna' figure out the exact positions for any length video?

  • @UseMyDroid Still working on it, now I've hired some outsiders to help... we'll see if together we can crack the code for any video length.

  • i want to know how to make your own thumbnail like how smosh or shanedawson does it on their videos can someone please thell me how to do that?

  • @narutouzumakijoshua You can only choose thumbnails like they can if you are a YouTube Partner. My thumbnail tips are to try to help non-partner people choose their thumbnail. Normally YouTube does not let non-partners choose their own thumbnail image.

  • @narutouzumakijoshua do you mean thubnail cheating, having something to trick people into watching your video. Shane dawson should be removed from youtube, it's o.k. he's a meth head look at his face it's falling apart.

  • Mr. Victor is cool

  • wats the song in the background?

  • @ConorandCiaranShow

It was a music track I got from within Apple's iMovie HD, I've since moved on to iMovie 09 and that tune is not in that version. Not sure I can find the name, but I hope that helps. ;-)

  • Just ran some tests and with youtube thumbnail position is RANDOM as of March 2010. That what my research showed. But there may be a work around ;)

  • cool trick with the dog :D

  • If you want to know how it really works check out my tutorial from smashtvcanada. Ive got it down to 1/30th of a second.

  • I'll have to check out your stuff soon to see if you really have it. That 1/30th of a second sounds a lot like 1 frame. I've had lots of people tell me they worked it out, just to find out that it is not repeatable. We shall see. Thanks for your comment!

  • I checked out your vid. good example of details on how to place in the still shots... why didn't your training vid use an example (desired) still? Perhaps you don't yet have the exact formula?

It is very tricky! But you did a good job demonstrating the concept of inserting a still shot into the video creation process. Good job - just need to make it 100% repeatable. That's part of the trick isn't it?

  • THNXXXXXXXXX very helpfulll 5*

  • Great... what is it that you've come up with? You can PM me or post it here (or wherever). Saying its a formula is interesting because the formula can be based on many factors. How does your formula work? Let me test it out, OK?

  • Yes I will make a video of it soon sometime next week cause I got a test to study for tomorrow.

  • Haven't heard anything from you yet about your discovery. Has the testing of it caused you second thoughts about its viability?

  • Yes and No. I just haven't had a lot of time to investigate into it more because of college. Once I get a break at Christmas I will prob look back into it.

  • @Danph77

So, no video still? Thought not.

  • I have been busy with other things (college and making reviews) so no video yet. I have basically given it up because its not worth my time anymore. However just to let you know I was close on the thumbnail formula but not exact.

  • Kool.

  • whats the formula? lol

  • Go to the link in the video description, that takes you to specific page on my site where I give the "magic numbers" (aka formula) for the proper positions in various video hosting sites. It's Free!

  • cool doggie!

  • wow damn thumbnail gives away my rick roll video all the time

    i hate youtube

  • YouTube do give bad choice of thumbnails sometimes. It would be good if we could take a snapshot of part of a video and use the bit we chose. :)

It's not often youtube chooses a funny thumbnail. lol

  • aaaaaaaa talking dog, crap

  • wow... youtube sucks; that's really lame that that's what you have to do to select your own thumbnail. (The three choices I have on my last video are 3 different transitions, so useless as thumbnails) Thanks for the info; nice post. I would have liked to see a how-to in this video, but I can figure it out easily with the information provided.

  • thanks :D

i was wonderinng how u do that

  • so whats the "trick"? I cant find the answer in your site D:

  • The trick is placing still shots in the proper places/locations of a video so the shots you put in the video are chosen as the video thumbnails.

Go back to my site and look for the page "video thumbnail trick". It gives the proper still shot positions for a 1 min 30 sec video. The link is up in the details (upper right).

  • do you know the trick for youtube's thumbnails?

  • Still working on it for YTube. We have it nailed if you don't mind the majority of the video being a timer. See the video "Youtube thumbnails test 30" for what I mean.

Subscribe and you'll know when it really happens. :-)

  • okay thx =) Good luck :D

  • better have it sooner!

  • If you went to the link in the description it points you to a page on my website that gives away 3 "positions" where you can add a thumbnail "still shot" in your video. Then publish it on the proper websites and BAM you've got the perfect thumbnail.

The Video Thumbnail Trick is sticking a still shot into your video in just the right spot.

  • We appreciate the FREE thumbnail positions you posted for videos of 1 and a half minutes. If you charge for other lengths, fine, I'll just keep my videos to 1.5 minutes.

  • You guys are just LEECHES... selling informations that is supposed to be free for up to 100$ - blood sucking leeches...free my ass!!

  • I offer thumbnail positions for FREE. Did you click the link to get them? The free positions are for a video that is 1 min. 30 sec long... just like I say in the video. What is not free?

If you think the positions for thumbnails for all videos should be free, then contact YouTube & publish the results for free.

Oh, perhaps YouTube won't tell you but you have to figure it out like I am working on for various lengths since it is no longer a simple formula. Do the work, then publish it-for FREE!

  • you are talking like a you are a hacker and did an exploit. but you are not. you r just leeches that and suck blood. Real hackers know.. INFORMATION WANTS TO BE FREE! Real hackers share their exploits for non profit. You poor guys need to rip off peoples for a simple information. thats poor. Go and PAY for your advertising on youtube, leech.

  • You call this "simple information" so why don't you publish it for FREE? Maybe because it isn't so simple, eh?

When I figure it out I will let my customers have the advantage of using it properly. If you beat me to it (since you are a "real" hacker) then publish it for free! And I bet all it gets used for is porn or quasi-porn.

I have a business that helps people optimize their videos online to drive traffic to their website(s). I happen to value thumbnails so I'm working to figure it out.

  • oh dear!! you are so poor. all that nudes around you do scare you, huh ? cant differ nude from porn, ey? using free and opensource products on the web, but ripping off simple people on youtube for a simple information ? guess its because you guys are no business men.. you guys are leeches.

  • This is kinda fun, but getting old... I repeat my challenge to you (and I can do that without throwing about any insults).

Do the work to figure out what you call "simple information" (how YouTube chooses Thumbnails now for a video of ANY length) then publish it for free. When that is done then you will have your way!

Prove me wrong! Show us all that it is "simple" as you say.

  • challenge ?! what challenge? proof ? i dont need to proof anything. YOU already proofed that you guys are leeches. why dont you proof "to your customers" that you are the big hackers u attempt to be ? proof that you can do it with 5 or 10min video too. proof that you are not these leeches, taking all for free but NOT giving ANYTHING back to the community. leeches do that. Are u a leech? need me to fill up your comments to score ?? where are all your satisfied "customers" ?? what a leech...

  • Thanks

  • U R Welcome. Did you get your free positions for placing thumbnail images in your video? If not, look at the "more info" of this video to get the link for the free positions for a 1 min. 30 sec video.

  • Thanks for the tip on Thumbnail Flashes (quickies)... I went to your web-page you reference in the info area and used the free position information you gave me for making my thumbnails work.

It took me a few tries to get the stills shots in just the right spots, but once I got my still shots at the positions you told me, I uploaded my modified video clip, the proper thumbnails showed up like a charm!

Thanks for the FREE tip! I'll be making lots of 1:30 length videos now!
