really cool experiment, interesting to see what sort of differences fermenter shape would contribute, maybe one day will be fermenting in totally different shaped fermenters :-P

Very interesting! One question for you: how long did the beers ferment for? I know that plastic buckets have a little more passage of oxygen, but that effect is said to take a long time (couple of months?).

@arrogantbastardale The beers were in the primary for two weeks, then I racked to a bottling bucket and bottled. I don't think the permeability of the plastic to O2 was an issue. - James

I wonder if there would be a difference in a metal conical fermenter or a plastic better bottle as well?

@MaximAvs One of the brewers who conducted the collaborative experiment compared a stainless conical with a glass carboy. He didn't note any difference between the two. - James

Funny...I was toying with the idea of building or buying an economical conical fermenter. These would be plastic, and I now wonder if they final product would be better than my current glass carbon system. Interesting...thanks for posting!

@mlaudio72 Have a listen to the Basic Brewing Radio episode I just posted. In the second beer I brewed as a split batch between fermenters, I didn't detect any differences. I want to brew the Belgian again to see if I can repeat our results from this test. - James
