Joseph Smith was an abolitionist and helped many slaves buy their freedom. I am of mixed race and I was born into both the Presbyterian and LDS churches, my family and I ultimately decided on the LDS church and we have never experienced racism or read and racist material in the scriptures. i am a 56 yr old african american and recently a converted lds memeber and i have talked with church leaders about the church. the mormons to me looking at the history lived by the times in which they lived in. so was any other church at that time who were surprisingly anti civil rights. i do remember the mormon church setting up stands to feed civil rights marchers during break which to me stayed in my mind for a long time.

He is our likely nominee in 2012. He ranks ahead of Jindal, Palin, and Huckabee. A person like Newt Gingrich might knock him out. Mark Sanford doesn't stand a chance, because it might be hard for him to compete with Huckabee for southern states, because northern Republicans, as you saw in 2008, largely vote for candidates like Romney, Reagan, or McCain, people from outside of southern states.

Joseph Smith was an abolitionist and helped many slaves buy their freedom. I am of mixed race and I was born into both the Presbyterian and LDS churches, my family and I ultimately decided on the LDS church and we have never experienced racism or read and racist material in the scriptures. You'll be surprised at how many African-American Mormons there are in UT.

@RCTIMP2 If you read the Bible as much as you read the BOM then you would know that eleven of the tribes recieved land as their inheritance, the Levites recieved overseership of the Law of Moses or basically the Law of Yahweh (Spirit). Before 1978 God in the Mormon church was by definition a racist because he did not (which is really your church presidents) allow blacks to fully participate in the endowment ceremony, baptisms for dead, etc. YOU CANNOT DENY THIS! THEY DIDNT ACCEPT BLACKS AT FIRST

i am a 56 yr old african american and recently a converted lds memeber and i have talked with church leaders about the church. the mormons to me looking at the history lived by the times in which they lived in. so was any other church at that time who were surprisingly anti civil rights. i do remember the mormon church setting up stands to feed civil rights marchers during break which to me stayed in my mind for a long time.

God loves me; He hates my sin. God loves you; He hates your sin. There is no sin involved in belonging to another race. There is sin involved when I lie, or when someone steals, or when two men have a sexual relationship. We do it by choice (no matter what some say about inherited traits, etc.).

We don't personally owe recompense for slavery, the Holocaust, taking my Native American ancestors' land, or the Missourians chasing the Mormon cult out of Missouri. I don't know if you're aware of this, but these men (and the Billary) are running for President, NOT governor of Michigan. Their ability to help us here in Michigan is going to be limited at best. I need a job too, my former employer, Tenneco Automotive, trashed many of their employees so they could hire someone new and pay them less money and benefits. I'm not convinced Mr. Romney can help us.
