I understand about the cold referene now--buck up. It was a good straight forward point of view and I did laugh out loud at the teckno tirade--we here in Canada aren't so into school sports except for participation, so am alwaysed amazed at the American focus on such an elitist phenomenon. Get off you ass and do a few laps or something.
I've got to say, America's a competitive country. I cringe a little when there are arguments between friends concerning sports; not sports in which they participate, mind you, but arguments in which they represent the team they are a fan of (ex. the "Red Sox-Yankees" debate that occurs frequently if you live in NY or NJ). Then again, most of us here are too lazy to do sports, so rooting for a team is the next best thing.
Well, that's enough "What's wrong with the USA" ranting for now.
My brother is a teacher in Houston, TX (elem.) and am always amazed at things he tells me, such as SAT tests in kinder and kids failing grade one. Here they don't even give marks(what you call grades) until grade 4, only written comments on what is good and what needs to improve. I'm not anti-US or anything, just surprised. And by the way, although you profess to not want to make 'coherent sense', you unfailingly do so, on the theme of buggering with an established tradition.
