She said stem cells. Are they still illegal in the US? I remember something about stem cell research being illegal because they used baby fetuses, but later learned that you don't need fetuses for stem cells anymore.

Hello my name is Grace and I need advice.... I'm 13 and I want to donate a bone marrow but I'm really confused. My parents have told me they fully support me but I don't know where to start. I've heard as of what they are doing in this video and of a type of surgery...... I'm also worried on the pain. I understand it is someones life I am trying to save but I get very nervous when someone mentions donating a bone marrow. Lastly I want to know how time consuming it is. Please help me.

@MisterDvDCollector Yeah, I'm right there with ya. I like the idea but I have anxiety and I'm afraid I'd get too scared. I donate blood on a regular basis thinking it's the least I can do as a healthy lady in the summer of her life. If, say, my best friend was to donate marrow along side me, I MIGHT be able to do it. It would take A LOOOTTTT of moral support if I DID manage to do that.

@MisterDvDCollector I'm not sure where I can do that in my local area where it will be with a reputable organization, but if I don't find a place I can go, the blood drives at my college campus have that promotion and I can do it at the next one upon returning the next school year. Or if Blood Source does that on the side, I'm eligible to donate again mid next month and I can ask about it the next time I donate blood...

I've read a few bits and pieces about this and as far as I can tell, your bone marrow regenerates in about 6 weeks?

Does anyone know if this affects your long-term ability to produce bone marrow though?

I was a bone marrow donor in 2004 and the only thing I can compare it to is that after it is over with, you feel like you have worked out about 4 hours. The procedure is nothing to fear.

I read that the marrow regenerates in about 6 weeks, and that it can be painful depending on the pain threshold of the donor. But do not quote me on this, I'm sure you can find out the info you need just by googling it.

they take 5 % of your bone marrow from your pelvin bone.. it's regenerated after 2 weeks. you get anesthesia while they take the bone marrow out. could hurt a few days... but i think not too much.
