I showed one of my friend's Abyssinian in a 4-H cavy show today, definitely one of my favorite breeds now, they are just so pretty! I love the Teddy's too.

I find it quite funny how a very small number of breeds are reconised in the US compared to the UK, I prefer it here as there are no Swiss in the US :O and 'Shelites'are called Silkies also selfs, tort and white, dutch are called americans when they are diferent breeds

i have 5 american guinea pigs. one thing i didnt understand though. u said almost on every one that the breed it not found in tan. i have seen tan guinea pigs before. what soes that mean?

Its not recognized by the association (ARBA, ACBA ect.) in tan meaning its a unshowable color at shows.

also sorry but my two piggies are constantly dirty and I do bathe them but their fur is always yellw, any tips for cleaning them. They have white fur, its not supposed to be yellw, I think its like that cuase they always sit in their own toilet, I do clean their cage but still.

oh yah one of them is very nervous and stiffens up when scared, its hard to have fun with her sense she just stiffens up or sits there any tips? She wont do tricks or cuddle up against me she just sits and be nervous.

Now I have two female americans, one is mainly white with colored patches on her eyes, and the other is more of a calico color with orange on her hips and back end, white as well and black and orange patches on her eyes.

How you know when a guinea pig has long hair or short hair?  well at petco the guy told me that the one with long hair has a hair pattern, is that true? thanks =)

PetSmart (or as I like to call them: PetStupid) only gets in Abysinnians and Americans from mass breeding mills. :[ ONLY ADOPT A PIGGY! I adopted two Peruvians and right now there's 3 Peruvians for adoption near me! :]

It's much better if you just adopt from a shelter than if you focus on a particular breed. Shelter pigs are healthier than store pigs, and pigs from specialty breeders are much more expensive than shelter pigs.

So first decide on gender for your pair, then check out local rescues and shelters for your options on coat. Adopting an already-bonded pair will cause you a lot less grief than trying to mix and match, by the way.

Yes, yes I know that now (My parents finally said yes) because I did 6 hours of research a day 7 days a week.

I'm just going on craigslist, instead. It's cheaper there (my mom won't let me adopt any guinea pigs because it's too expensive... x_x)

I'm worried about your mom's expectations of finances. Does she know a good C&C cage costs about $40? And that keeping two pigs costs about $40 per month? Well, if you use fleece bedding. Has she considered vet bills that might be necessary in three or four years? I know your parents said yes, but do they know what you're all getting into?

I raise aby's too, I raise roans brindles, self reds, and broken color. I also have a few Americans most of them are Golden agouties but there are a few solids and a lilac as well as a Himalayan or two, TS&W Texels, a red and white Peruvian, a black and white Silkie, a black and white cornet and a self red teddy.

I want a coronet.

Where does one find a long-haired pig? I have almost never seen them in pet stores.

Coronets are fun :) However, if you were allergic to an Aby, you are most likely allergic to all piggies.

You'd probably have to find a breeder of longhaired cavies to get one. Most pet-store piggies are mutts (mutts make great pets unless you want a particular breed :)

I've never had a Rex before... but Teddies have a slightly harsh coat. The best ones are supposed to feel like a brillo pad :)

the story is, i got my 1st pig and it turned out that she was pregnant, so she gave birth to 5 lil ones(soo cute=]) and it was intersting how they all where different colors and one of them was an abyssinian.. all white but had like a brownish eye pack lol.. well idk but they are all cute now i have only the mom and one of her girls.. so ya=]
