Hey Jerry, an idea that i think you could try is (don't know if you've already done it or not, its been 8 months so yeah) Sand down the edge of the circle, then get another piece of plexiglass and shape it as a circle, but what you would want to do is make 3 small square sections come out, then take a small knife and make 3 identical slots that fit the sections near the top. And Voila, a slotted cover. If worst comes to worst you can epoxy it in place.
@TheGuitarkid15 /watch?v=HRNwrQ6rPnE Check out that video. I was pointed in the direction of some moulding that worked out really well. I think it looks better on that black Gamecube too.
I wasn't planning on making a video about it but I guess I could. It's pretty straight forward though. You need a 3mm 3.2 - 3.4v LED. Yank out or desolder the old one and solder in a new one. That hardest part really is opening the Cube and taking that board out which isn't that hard either, just be careful and take your time.
I'd probably get some kind of film or plastic, cut it in a circle and stick it on the plexiglass as a mask. Then, get some areobic silicon and use a finger to make a nice radius around the edge and hide the hack marks. Then I'd take off the mask before it dries all the way..
That's about what I was thinking at first but I didn't know Aerobic Silicone was what I wanted.
A user further down suggested this stuff called U Channel. It's moulding that'll go around that edge...PC modders use it when putting windows in cases. It looks exactly like what I need.
I also ordered some samples of colored plexiglass that should be just the right size to replace that clear plexi. So I'll have some cool color options after I paint the case. And I got some LEDs coming.
Can't wait to see how this turns out! Guess it will be finished in the spring. I don't know if it's possible, but can you give it an Atari 2600 theme with the wood paneling?
Well I wouldn't be able to paint wood paneling but might be able to find a skin or a decal.
I'm thinking about seeing if my brother will let me use his garage to paint in. Plus he's got a lot more tools and crap. So once I get this moulding to make that cut look nicer I'll go over there and work on some more modding projects.
There is some metal springy molding you can get that will fit right in around the edge, cover the edge and all you do is glue it on a little bit and it stays. They also have it in plastic (but you have to buy it).
I love doing mods with what I have on hand!! Excellent!
Electropnically, GC's are a BITCH to mod imho.
I think I can pull off a clear top window, though.
Yeah the window was easy enough. I ordered some samples for some plexi glass in different colors. I'm hoping they're big enough to use on the Gamecube.
One of the other commentors linked me here mnpctech(dot)com The U Channel is exactly what I needed and I ordered up 6 feet.
I plan on modding the hell out of some shit and adding windows in all kinds of consoles. I really hope that U channel works as well as the video on that site.
That is the good thing about GC's nowadays you can get like them for dirt cheap, that way you could do some practing on them in case you fuck something up.
I'm thinking maybe a metallica gold with red leds and a triforce centerpiece-Zelda Theme
or
glossy red with blue leds and "M" centerpiece- Mario Theme
also which "wrestle-man" game did you get? if it is Ultimate Muscle, that game is fun as shit!
you could simply get sand paper and smooth-out the imperfections in the gamecube.
I would get a metallic midnight blue or Ice blue, and put in blue or purple or green LEDs. I would actually put four of them in, one blue, green, yellow, and red.
A commenter further down linked me to this bad ass moulding that'll make the cut look a hell of a lot prettier. Can't wait for my order to get here. :D
Hea Jerry if u getting rid of that game i will take it. Im just going to re write the program on it if u dont give a damn about it. And that will be a slick Game Cube, you should go for some neon colours and pimp that GC out haha.
If you can remove the plexi glass window you could use a file to file out all the cut marks around the edge but you would probably want to either remove the Gamecube's casing or cover up the lens because you'll get purple dust everywhere lol.
Thanks to Kscorps2 this Gamecube projects going to get a lot more bad ass. He linked me to some sweet moudling that'll make that cut look a lot nicer. I also ordered some sample pieces of colored plexiglass. So I might end up with some like Neon red window in there.
Expensive and rare because the cable has a digital to analog converter in it, it has logic. The digital out port outputs some kin of digital signal, cable converts it into analog component. It is true that a third party could in theory make one, but no one hardly cares about it so no one wants to. It's not just a simple wiring situation, or there would be third party ones.
Hahaha Actually yes that was for you! All three of the Gamecubes I've got have the digital out. I just looked up the component cable again because I forgot why it was so expensive and rare. Sucks there aren't any third party options. Gamecube games really do shine in 16:9.
Grab a "Datel SD Media Launcher" With it you can run emulators, genesis, snes, sega master system, tg-16, Gameboy advance, all with original hardware. It comes with an sd adapter>gc mamory card, you out the files on sd, and a boot disk that makes the magic happen. I have one and it really rocks. Works on Wii too, confirmed Wii menu versions up to the newest 4.2u.
That's pretty cool. I'll have to look into it for sure. I was talking to a friend about modding an Xbox just for the sake of emulators. Gamecubes are a hell of a lot cheaper than Xboxs.
I'm really not super into the Gamecube scene. I've had once since 2003 or so but at that time I was more of a ps2 guy. It's only been the past 3 years I've been super into video games. :D
The guy at L1 games did a Famicom colored Gamecube and I really liked it and thought about making my own one day. I actually stopped in his shop one day nice place. He has a Youtube channel L1games and Gamermuzz.
Cool. Do you have any guides you'd recommend? I'll definitely look into it. There's really no reason for me to add a region switch as I don't really see myself importing any games...but it'd be fun to do just for the sake of awesome.
Lol I take that as a compliment! You do a lot of good modding. I don't really know dick about electronics but I can follow instructions with the best of them. So all the sweet mods you do with the LEDs is pretty bad ass but beyond my scope of expertise at the moment.
At the very least I can change the LED thats in there. And if I find a tut about adding some inside the disc tray that'd be dope shit.
haha cool man, its pretty easy to do.. make friends with a soldering iron, a dremel, and a hot glue gun haha.. hmm i might get another gamecube and see what i can do with it... fuck yeah
Oh and Wrassle mans comes from the first time I tried LSD. Like six hours into being high my friends Seth Rock and KFC were boring the fuck out of me by playing some N64 wrestling game. And I was whining like a baby bitch buttery fly about "STOP PLAYING WRASSLE MANS! THAT SHITS WACKKKKK"
hmm yeah Black with the buttons and front panel in red then adding some red LEDs. Would be pretty sexy. See that's the same color scheme I did with the first N64 I painted so I don't want to be a one trick pony. But Red and black always looks good. I was thinking glossy black and flat black too.
I just ordered some sample pieces of colored plexi glass that'll probably be the right size for that window. So I might end up with a sweet colored window. Thanks to a commenter I found this moulding that'll make that window look 1000x more bad ass.
I'm getting way excited now. I'm sure this will result in a lot more case mods. And I need to see if my brothers got a Jigsaw in his garage. If now I'll probably have to go buy one. :D
Hey the Gamecube lives on in the Wii. Some kick ass backwards compatability. The only problem is you can't use the Wii mote to power down when in Gamecube mode. Always bugged me. I'm to damn lazy to move when I'm playing games.
I don't really have any strong feelings one way or the other about it. I really doo like the hardware. The things really small which I really like. Like the bottom half inch is basically hollow so it's realisitcally smaller than it looks. It does have a lot of really kick ass games. Not a bad choice for a favorite system. :D

if i take the jewel thing out of my gamecube will that leave a whole
to put the plexi glass in
mozzafb 2 years ago
You can pop the jewel out easily...theres plastic under it that it snaps into. You have to use a rotory tool to cut outthat plastic.
Go ahead and pop out the jewel...it pops right back in.
JerryTerrifying 2 years ago
sweet cheers
ive got a universal console cutting tool anyways.
so pop the jewel then get cutting?
