I had a 97 Maxima ypipe, exhaust, CAI.....they are nice but NO TOP END whatsoever....pointless reving past 5500rpm........now got a 02 6spd....OMG!!!!! SWEET!!!
@nandiito Every car has their douche bag fan boys. I love the A32 because it's a solid and reliable car, and is quicker than anyone would expect it to be.
Put the intake off the 00 and put it on the 98 and see who wins. And honestly its only a matter of a few hundred pounds between the two cars..........
@greggkurtz lol changing your oil doesnt add horsepower... and the K&N filter may have added 5hp lol. You have to do a full intake to actually notice a difference and even then its quite minor, and then you would want to do your exhaust... If you got all this extra air coming in the last thing you want is it to be restricted going out.
@arcenal352 the 2000 does have 30 more hp but it also has 200 extra pounds. so that 30 hp is neutralized by the added weight. and as a side note the 4th gens have more potential for mods
Stock on stock it should be a drivers race because the 00 weighs more or at least the 00 would pull about half a car at the most. That 00 def had mods or the 4th gen was auto or the guy just sucked at driving
There are options but they are not nearly as cheap or as available as it was for Hondas. Being a former owner of an h22a swapped civic I can tell you that parts were cheap and easy to come by. I even have a flasher that I used to flash my own chips.
The 3.0L safely revs to 8000rpm, but it doesn't make power above 5500rpm unless you have the 00vi intake manifold.
The 3.5L runs out of steam at 6000rpm unless you have the SSIM hack or remove the butterfly valve. The 3.5L can safely rev to 7000rpm without mods and to 7500rpm with upgraded rod bolts.
The best way to extend the rev limiter is emanage ultimate.
Um, you need to get more informed before you comment.
Yes, the stock rev limit is 6550rpm, but that can be circumvented with a flashed ECU or an e-manage ultimate. The way that the stock ECU cuts the engine off at 6550 is not with spark, but with fuel. So the piggybacks and the flashed ECUs add fuel maps above 6550rpm.
Well my bad, I didnt see the end of your post. But my point still stands, when people turbo or super charge, they tend to extend the rev limiter. I dont see the point in doing it if your stock.
hey 98 max a gxe doesnt come in 5 speed thats the base model or i havent seen one i could be wrong ive only seen an se in 5 speed or 6 i want a 02-03 6sp so damn bad but i cant find one no where i have a 00 max se auto and a 96 gxe auto and ive raced my 96 auto and raped it by 6 cars my dad has a 96 se 5speed with an cold air intake and i got him by 3 cars
the only diff in the motors is that the 00 max has a better intake plenum and head design but it actually has smaller exhaust valves. any the the 00 comes with 30 more ponies new, 190vs.220 although the 00 wieghs 150 more pounds
@NismoBdon don't have the VI myself, but i have seen it in action - definitely makes a good difference ~5.5K RPM+. below that, i don't see much of a difference between VI and USIM
thats 100 percent correct its a 30hp from the factor diff could help you get more out of your bolt ons or whatever though too. its a vq30de-k the k stands for japanse word that means perfrection
Butterfly valves open up at higher RPMs thus creating more HP at a high RPM which in return gives a much better curve. Maximas with stock VQ30DEs NON K lose HP after like 5500RPM. With the VQ30DEK which has this intake sloves most of that issue. Its mostly just 20HP tho
@XArabHunterX How do you know this? Did you dyno it? Because the reading you would get would more than likely be HP at the wheels, and I highly doubt that your 96 VQ30 with JUST an intake change makes 210hp at the wheels...
@arcenal352 - No I have never dynoed it but this is just what i was told, the 96' Maxima has about 195hp stock so the air intake change only adds about 15hp, idk lol. not worth dynoing tho, its got over 200 thousand miles on it and im selling it now.
@PivotMurdaBaller hell yes 4th gen all the way! i have a 98 and it owns people all day! its the best. the curb weight on it fully loaded is 3012lbs. for a 4dr family car thats lighter than a new zo6 vette (3132 or 3137lb) but ya it doesnt matter what i pull up to i smoke them and then let them see what im watchin on my screens when they get in my rear view. granted mines not stock but it was still fast bone stock. VQ30DE is my favorite motor ever!
@PivotMurdaBaller You say that cause you have one.. that's how it rolls. I don't have anything against them though, but I have a 3rd generation and I may say the same.
35 horses makes a difference,but a lot of things gotta happen,like weight and stick/auto tranny...I had 140 HP on my stock car a few years ago but I beat a 170 HP Malibu,because I was stick plus less weight..you have to take into effect the little things like that.
Just because the 00 has a better top end but it still depends. if the 98 had some weight taken out + was a base model like it seems to be and the 00 was fully loaded with the camraman. and the 98 had some good tires and got lucky he'd win :D
I just got done doing 00vi swap on my car and raced my friends 01 and smoked it :)

@Masst3rShake Yup.. they sell a comp that allows revs to 7200. You wont regret getting a maxima.

Um.... a 4th gen maxima redlines at 6.5k and the revlimiter will bounce it back if you go above it

You never said you deleted the rev-limiter. Yes, I understand that you can increase the redline, for instance if you added a turbo or a supercharger.
bruni197 1 year ago
@bruni197
Actually if you go back and read my original comment I said, "The best way to extend the rev limiter is emanage ultimate."
Extending the rev limit has NOTHING to do with turbos or superchargers. There's plenty of people who are NA that extend the rev limit.
fubecabr 1 year ago
@fubecabr
Well my bad, I didnt see the end of your post. But my point still stands, when people turbo or super charge, they tend to extend the rev limiter. I dont see the point in doing it if your stock.

Non the less how would 95 and 02 be the best bet? Those would probably be the two worst years. 97-98. and then 03.
95 was the first year for the 4th gens = They have problems. More recalls than any of the other ones.
02 was the first year for the 3.5 also has more recalls than the others.
