Just to let everyone know, the hook kick doesn't translate to ura mawashi geri! The hook kick does not have an accurate Japanese translation because it is a predominantly western kick. Best substitute would be Kake Geri (translates directly to hooking kick). Ura Mawashi Geri would be backwards mawashi geri but since the idea of backwards didn't really exist in this period of Japanese history, it would most likely refer to a spinning roundhouse, if such a thing was ever used then

No. That's not true.

First, translations are not from english to japanese, it's from japanese to english.

That's not a western kick, it's a karate kick, and it always had the name "ura-mawashi-geri", like in the case of "ura-ken" for the "tsuki" version.

I think the term "hook kick" is a bad translation to english from the original japanese one ("ura-mawashi-geri"). I would translate it to english as "reverse circular kick" or something like that.
