  • wrap it in foil and ground the foil to box

  • Meters have a lifecycle and must be replaced after X number of years - so you would get a new meter anyway, which you will pay for. The real benefit of electric smart meters is that the utility will be able to contol the amount of power distributed at any given time, and as a result not have to build new power gen plants, which you will pay for in rate adjustments. If your meter is reporting inaccurately, notify the utility. By code they must be within a certain degree of accuracy.

  • Fuck this Stupid meter!!!!!!!!! my bill 3/18 to the house I moved into $17.27 and then on 4/16 bill was $91.40, on 5/17 181.65, on 6/16 262.74 Yes hot in vegas may to june this was with the old meter. New meter installed in June 7/31 408.25 on 8/16 faking 466.86 then 9/15 after Istopped using all AC in home sweating everynight still 396,91 on 10/15 350.01 and 11/15 350.68 Its already winter 350 bucks wtf!!!!!!!!!! who can I go to?

  • I heard people been getting sick of them?

  • You only hear about people whos bill have come up but there is plenty of people who had their bill decreased.

It has to do with how they used to do billing.

The old way was that they only regularly checked how much the block used and only checked individuals every so often and used the individual amounts to figure out how much of the the total block on average each house used.

Thus it was often spread out more evenly among the block.

Now with the smart meters they do it based on individuals

  • FYI.... Smart meters are not "smart". They are the same old meters that have always been there, they just have a communication module installed. This allows them to send the same reading into the utility without them haveing to send a person out there to read it. They could get the exact same usage information by sending the meter reader out there everyday....again, I repeat, the meters are not smart.....they have no intelligence, they only register how much electricity is used.

  • this music brings me back

  • i love the uk

  • it is true tho they do rip you off, the whole idea is for the power company to get back at under charged customers that have had the clock dial or "analog meters" for all those years cause they arent all that accurate

  • On a serious note; can the utility cut power to the house remotely with these?

  • @gavincurtis yep,, among other things

  • @doug2877 In the wrong hands that could be bad. Imagine Martial Law and it's lights out for all individuals after 10PM. Wonder if there is a global shutdown command like the iRobot movie. I have a smart meter and honestly not worried about the radio transmitter as so much other EMF noise. But the idea of remote shutoff is a bit creepy.

  • @doug2877 Well, sorta. They can come out and remove the meter to cut your power. But there's nothing "remote" about it.

These smart meters are simply a coil of wire right next to another coil of wire to which some expensive electronics and a radio *TRANSMITTER* (is there any way I can emphasize the transmit-only part of 'transmitter'?)

  • @gavincurtis no!!!!!

  • My Smart Meter loves to gobble up microwaves from a magnetron. Now it's Stupid Meter. :P

  • these meters are killing people.anyone with an implant will be dead.i am dying from them now.i cant fit the list of symptoms.this company is criminal

  • @jacmunbong get a solar panel or generator and smash the meter

  • these meters are killing people.anyone with an implant will be dead.i am dying from them now.i cant fit the list of symptoms

  • I MADE A VIDEO CALLED "SMART METERS FOR YOUR BODY" .. it is a science fiction idea and I am wondering what people think about it.

  • Hey Doug! You and I have something in common. We both like ELO - Electric Light Orchestra. I wonder what ELO think about all of this?

  • wow the most annoying voice and such a crap report. dumbed down yet?

  • Is there no way to force the power company to put the old dial meters back on homes? If enough people argue for it, they'd be forced to do so. Become a big pain in the power companies side. The old meters were much more reliable. I would hazard a guess that spikes in the power grid cause the meters to register higher than normal usage.

  • my bill has never been over 325 bucks in 3 years. Last two months that damn thing was in there it was 500 bucks each! This is bullshit and I keep my ac at 78 and heat at 65-68, if I turn it on at all. FU ONCOR, damn crooks

  • where is ERIN BROCKOVICH SOSHE CAN STICK IT IN PG&E ASS AGAIN.

  • I hate smart meter because it cost me near $300.00 per month.

  • They just put a smart meter on the poll on my street, and now there is no cell network pick up.

  • Hey Doug Great Song For The Video

    About the Dumb[Smart] Meter

    Ya I Got 1

The Stupidist meter on The Market

  • Never heard of anwsering the door with a shotgun. You have the right to do so. At least for now.

  • @ShimmeringTruth1138 problem is they don't come to the door. they just go right to the meter and install without your permission.

  • There is a larger concern , and that is your health. These things release electromagnetic waves.

  • @GaGirlie777 So does your computer, you watch, your fridge, stove, vibrator. Sorry bud, you're surrounded by electromagnetic waves everywhere you turn. Hell, even the earth's magnetic field is an electromagnetic field. Head for deep space.

  • @UnderManlac there has to be limits. we cannot be so overwhelmed by all the accumulated sources of emf, it becomes too much.

  • Look at the response from my power company in Georgia .... no choice!!!!

    Dear Valued Customer,

Both of these addresses have Smart Meters. I apologize for the inconvenience, however, the Smart Meters are not optional. All Georgia Power meters are being switched to Smart Meters. If you have any other questions, please call us at 1-888-660-5890.

    Sincerely,

    ONLINE CUSTOMER CARE

  • @GaGirlie777 Ah, but if enough customers wrote or called the company and complained they'd have to listen. If enough people demanded their old dial type power meters to be put back into place, they'd have no choice now would they? Don't negate the power of the consumer. For without them, the power company would not be in business. At least the old meters ran a little more accurately than the smart meters do. I would hazard a guess that it's registering spikes on the grid as used power.

  • @UnderManlac

Agreed....I did my part and complained to Georgia Power. Now it''s time for others to do the same.

  • i just got one................

  • @wheely132 Sorry about that

  • @doug2877 ya, wasnt to happy when i saw it

  • When we signed the contract with the utility company, THE INDUCTIVE METER WAS A PART of the agreement between us (supplier/customer).

It doesn’t matter WHAT that old meter measured !!!

It could be [Approximated Kilowatt Hour] alias AKwh , OR it could be [Esoteric Joules] alias EJ

It doesn’t matter what we thought the meter measured because AT THAT TIME we accepted it’s counting “habits”.

Then we trusted Tesla (the man who invented AC , built the first power plant and ...)

  • A tyrannical government could issue carbon ration cards, they already want to tax the air we breath. The ultimate government goal, in my opinion, is rationing. Dept of Energy also required the ability to remotely shut off your power. The utility company may have a goal of implementing a mind numbing, complex, tiered pricing model that will extract the maximum profit from the uninformed customer. How else do you extract more profits from a relatively fixed customer base?

  • The government could use targeted power shut off to meet emission goals or more devious objectives like selective punishment for dissenting citizens. Look at what they did in California recently, shutting off the water to an agricultural community to save a minnow, then opening the flood gates after certain legislators agreed to vote in favor of nationalized health care. The ability to cherry pick any US household and instantaneously shut off the power with a single key stroke is our new reality

  • I've had mine for at least 2 years now and haven't had any problems. I'm not sure if its a smart meter but its digital. I live in northeast Florida, not sure if its the same thing. My old meter didn't work and sometimes I saw it rotate backwards. For at least 2 years I was getting 13$ electric bills until the meter reader noticed it. LOL. My bill is lower than my neighbors.

  • One solution is to install about a 3 or 4 kw solar array and have it charge a 25 kwh battery bank that feeds a couple of multi kw inverters that then directly supplies your load center. Then you will be off of there bullshit grid. then ask for a service disconnection and volia - no more bills, - no more pollution. Energy independence Rules! This is what I did!

  • @TheSolarmike hi Mike,

How long the battery bank last if we have a rainy/cloudy week for example ???

  • I am really angry ONCOR Smart Texas came out and just put in a SMART METOR despite my protest, I DID NOT want the thing put in after reports that they raise your bill, but the guy put the thing in anyway, They give out a signal, who knows what is in that signal about your home?

  • @starfish50 and guess what your paying for that meter over the next 10 years, thanks for your comment

  • @doug2877 Pull a magnetron out of any microwave. Build an aluminum shroud "horn" on the magnetron to fit over a smart meter plus a flat shield around the edge - no fooling around it's 1000w of RF energy. Put it over the smart meter. Plug it in for a couple seconds. The smart meter will turn into a dumb meter instantly. No outside damage. If you're unlucky the meter may catch fire.

  • @starfish50

You can and should have refused the installation, its your property!! You don't want this surveillance device sending your information to some third-party group. Get a roll of roofing lead and wrap the bloody thing up, this will kill the wireless signal - or build a simple magnetron microwave emitter from an old microwave oven, and fry the blasted thing!!

  • @grifter116 I DID refuse the smart metor, I said absolutly; NO, do not put it up, they did it any way. - My son a computer expert says that these smart metors allow the electric co to compleatly shut down your electric,

  • @starfish50 The meter will not raise your bill... but the utility might start billing you differently, so you should see exactly how they are billing you. And the meter will only send Energy usage information...it cant collect anything else...its not a camera in your house spying on every move, Hopefully they will give you an In home display which is a good thing.

  • we got a smart meter installed here in melbourne au,, our bill did go up aswell though our meters allow you to back feed into the grid which will decrease your power bill.

  • @crisss994 OVER THREE MONTHS MY METER READ OVER 1500KW UNDER MY BUDDIES NEXT DOOR, THATS CAUSE I SAVE A LOT. BUT LAST MONTH MY KW JUMPED TO 200KW OVER MY BUDDIES METER...WTF...NOT TO MENTION THEY RAISED MY BILL 3% BECAUSE I DONT USE A LOT OF THERE POWER...WTF...

  • @doug2877 yea these things r shit, our bills gon up. its not good for us like they say its good for them because they get more money and also less work for them because a meter man doesnt have to come to our houses and read our meters anymore.

  • @crisss994 BULLSHIT ! This is THE PLAN wait and see your SCREWED with SMART METERS !

  • @nohealthcare62 yea if i could i would ask for my old meter back but i cant, and yea if u buy solar panels it decreases ur bill or they say so..

  • The power company does not tell people they are now billing a different price for power at different times of they day.

  • The meters charge more during peek times that's why you use the same power but your bill doubles.

  • Thanks for the imfo.

  • They have those same crap meters here in tennessee. After they put them in, the exact same thing happened here. Everybodys electric bill went way up.

  • I hear ya, I hear they wont allow you to back feed the grid either. My bill spiked 20 percent. Thanks for your comment.
