if it is a true SS why doesn't have the factory tach instead of a gas guage? Where is the tach Jeff? Why no console guages? Didnt the SS cars come with the square chrome louvers on the hood?

Hi, the tach and guages were factory options, not standard.

The hood was changed out during build and Z/28 style stripes added.

the stripes are painted wrong for a true 1969 camaro ss package they shouldnt be more than an inch and a half over the front of the hood and they end on the rear just before the rear spoiler for a true ss package with vinyl stripes

The L-78 is one of the most all out high performance engines that ever rolled off the line from Chevy. It's right there with the 375 horse 327 vette, DZ-302, L-88, 701/2 LT-1, LS-6 as far as having the good stuff. The L-78's were seriously bad. They came from the factory, four bolt mains, forged steel crank, 11.5 to 1 pistons, big valve square port heads, , alum intake, and a huge dual line Holley. Rare versions had alum heads. The sound with headers uncorked is awe inspiring.

I remember them very well. I was 17 years old, junior in High School. My brother in law drives up in my parents driveway in a 69 SS396 Camaro. Silver tone color. Black vinyl Top......2-door. One thing I'm not sure, does anybody know the value of this car in it's day??? It had a 4 speed, AM radio, no air conditioning.......although I'm not sure if that was really an option back in 69.....bought it at Polar Chev here in St. Paul, Minnesota. I miss those day's for sure.

Well the value of the car in its day is largely dependent on the engine option. A/C was an option on the almost all the cars, but not on the L-78, the 396/375, or the Z/28.
