Hannan's personal wealth coems from where he was born. His family got considerable wealth from Peru and Bolivia in the 1970's when they where under army dictatorships !! Human rights, no democracy and drug running all in a coutnry his family made considerable money from, do we think Hannans family paid good wages or used slabe wages ??

Being Canadian, I have had the luck to visit Cuba several times. They do live in poverty in financial terms without a doubt. They do have a wealth about them as a nation and people that you cannot measure in dollars. I for one am glad there are no yanks, or Mcdondalds,or Taco Bell or any other type of colonialist merchants that have infested the rest of the world like a disease. I hope they do improve their lot in life, but not at the expense of their souls like the rest of us.

America wasn't an economic giant since independence, it can be argued you only ever reached close to that height at the start of the 20th century.
Even then it wasn't capitalism that shot you to superpower status it was corporatism, the American rise to power was the same as the British Empire's rise to power, on the backs of the foreign poor, foreign civil wars, raping of resources and every other imperialist action you can think of.
Excuse me, we were a colony of Britain and whose back did we get prosperity? Don't even compare us to the englsh who by the way at least brought order to their colonies. Reached our height at the start in the 20th century ? not bad in a little over a hundred years of inderpendence. We shed any colonies we may have gotten rather quickly. Who spent Billions to rebuild Europe and Japan after WW2? What resoures do we rape and what backs are we prospering? Too much cool-ade college kid.

Cuba is better off than nearly every other Latin American country not to mention African or South east Asian one. He's a right-wing hack reading his Goebbels talking points, and has probably never been to Cuba.
Cuba is a hell hole. Girls sell their bodies for a t-shirt. People get paid months late. Ice cream is a luxury. Almost everyone there wants to get out. Yes the hospitals are free, if you count giving up all personal freedoms to go to the hospital free.
The only help the people get is by engaging in a little black-market capitalism with the tourists. If we subjected Cuba to the force of free market capitalism they would probably kick out the communists in a decade.
Not to mention the hospitals are a horror show, and as my mother who runs a public hospital in Brazil tells anyone who wants to listen, doctors who studied there are dreadful. Due to agreements between the governments of Brazil´s Lula and Castros, they export doctors to Brazil, and the country pay their salaries to the Cuban government.

there are no squads, Fidel doesn't like competition and nobody disappears because Fidel prints the news and sharks eat the unlucky ones that try to flee.
The issue of political prisoners in Cuba is a serious issue because nobody deserves to be imprisoned for simply complaining about their government. On the other hand, there are no death squads running around shooting people, nobody "disappears" in the middle of the night to never be seen from again, and they don't torture people. I hope they resolve their issues soon.
