  • The lady who yelled "ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God" at 1:24 sounded like she was about to be murdered.

  • amature video is the best! You see this stuff so many times with the network commentators yapping and you forget how real it is.

    Great video!

  • 1:24 OH MY GOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "oh my gooooowwd" Yeah, it's racing, it's dangerous, that's what makes it exciting woman.

  • I'm sitting in the Southwest Vista deck this year...these are practically the seats I'm going to have.

29 more days...time goes so slow when your waiting for the Indy 500!

  • I was there and I remember someone went under the yellow line in turn one (I don't remember who) and tried to get back up and caused the wreck

  • I have my original taping of this, I contacted ABC Sports immediately. If you can find a clear copy of this, which is nearly impossible...there is a flat, square piece of debri on the track that Stan runs over and immediately goes into the accident sequence. I've talked a little about this with a few Indy drivers I know that were friends of Stans...but nobody wants to talk about this when I bring it to their attention....Maybe someday one of them will open up about it

  • A few frames later, still at 1:18, you can see tire smoke on the right edge of the screen, and see part of the initial crash.

You also see Paul Tracy in the Newman-Haas car narrowly avoid the crash.

  • It's difficult to get right to the correct frame, but at 1:18, Stan (purple car) can be seen dipping below the white line in the far lower right corner of the screen. At least 2 wheels are under.

As soon as the Fox car went out of the frame it veered across the track. You see Cheever's black car go off the screen, and that's when he crashed into Fox's crashing car.

  • lol at 1:25 OH MY GOD!!!

  • cbf33 has it right.

Stan actually made what seemed to be a full recovery but after about 3 months he began suffering short-term memory problems that worsened. Long-time friends and associates also cited dramatic changes in his personality.

He became unable to work and his family left him. He was actually planning to move to New Zealand to try and crew midgets over there but, while on vacation, died n a road accident.

  • The fat "OOOOHHHH MMMYYYY GGGOOOOODDDD !!! "

  • OHH MY GOOOOOD

  • that is a really good video from the stands for 1995. must have had some good equipment.

  • He died 5 years later, in a the collision in NZ after his van hit head on with a car.

  • Listen to the one lady;

"Oh my GOD!" and "I hate that, I hate that".

If you can't handle a crash, don't go to INDY lady...I'm not a crash monger, but I accept that it's a fact....

  • He had a very difficult life after this crash. His short term memory suffered severely. His brain would blank out and reset every few seconds. He would have to take notes while conversing, so when he blanked he could pick up where he left off. He was not allowed to drive. He went on vacation I think in New Zealand, and tired of not being able to drive, rented a car....He never finished that drive. They believe he blanked out in the middle of driving and crashed and died on vacation.

  • Yeah, he died later but he was back at his day job 6 months after the crash.

  • Trust me, he wasn't working. Not when you short term memory keeps blanking out every 90 seconds or so.

  • Someone should probably update wikipedia with appropriate reference then.

  • He died later on though in a road car accident though.

  • did he die ???

  • No he didn't.
