  • You should be singing professionally :) lol

  • A good version, but I'd recommend against putting on an accent to sing it.

  • @SirCoughsalot Thanks, I'll consider it. :)

  • Enjoyed it. Not quite as much as I enjoyed Iris DeMent singing but she's pretty hard to beat. I liked that you sung the lines from the song that she didn't.

  • nicely done!!

  • @3WildPugs Thank you! :)

  • very nice

  • @sendit8721 Thanks. :)

  • This is beautiful. WOW!

  • @paulsbuck5 Thank you!

  • It takes a brave person to attempt this song and an exceptional one to sing it as well as you.

  • @Bardamu You are too kind, thank you!

  • Oh wow! you once again amazed me with this song as well! outstanding.. You need to keep singing songs like this.. You have that perfect sound or pitch for it. Please look up "Tim Eriksen" his channel here is "Batfancy" try some of his songs. You sure give Iris Dement a run for her money in this performance. Hats off to you.. Also I see you have a bit of day dreamer and fairy tale in you.. I think you belong on a big white horse in a forest singing like this..

  • @rmstudio Wow, what a wonderful compliment. :) Yes, I tend to day dream more than anything else these days. I love songs like this, and I love Iris Dement! Thank you so much for your kindness. I will look up this channel and see what I can learn, thank you!

  • You have a beautiful voice and did a wonderful job on this ballad!! Won't you please consider trying your hand at emmy rossum's version of matty groves from songcatcher??? Keep singing your heart out girl!!

  • I'll give it my best shot! :) I've had a hard time finding all the lyrics for it, though. Thanks for stopping by!

  • I first heard this song on a movie called song catcher and it was sung by Iris dement. I believe you sing this song as beautifully as anyone I've heard. Great Job!

  • Thank you so much. :)

  • I love your voice it reminds me of an bird called an nightingale.

  • Glad you like it. :)

  • I love it,you are fanstic singing without music.

    You have a great voice.

  • Thank you. :)

  • Doc Watsons version will always be "the" version for me, this is great though...

    Wonderful

  • Thanks. :)

  • Hauntingly lovely.

  • Thanks, cutiepie!

  • You made me cry. This is the essence of music; just your voice going...

  • Oh my.. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. Thank you for your kindess. :)

  • again, love this version, you have captered this song perfectly well done love all the versions that youve done from 'songcatcher'

  • :) Thank you!

  • What flaws? You can only try to reproduce how older people sang. You've done it convincingly; beautifully. If your cooking is like your singing, can you post a few recipes?

  • -Blush- ^_^; Aw, well.. I like to think that it's at least edible, anyway. Lol. Thank you SO much for taking the time to listen. :)

  • Lovely - you've got it. I feel that's how the old 'uns sang.

  • :) Wow, I am so flattered that you feel that way. Thanks for listening!

  • this song is typical of the scots-irish..btw some of me mums roots.. ballads that came to america and were passed down who knows when they were written.the movie song catcher tells a lot of this story..your voice does justice to this song..i just got on this thing tonight to trace country music back and ran in to you...

  • Well, I am truly honored that you would take the time to listen.. thank you very much for your kind words. :)

  • what a beautiful performance. Thanks.

  • Thank you very much for listening! :)

  • Thank you barefootlarry and KassurinReiChan i can't wait to here your updated version

  • :) Thanks very much!

  • Definitely going to subscribe! Another wonderful song!

  • Thanks! :D

  • Very clear, beautiful voice w/nice inflections,Kassurin!! Real nice!

  • Thank you! :D

  • I certainly hear no "shortcomings" in this! Great rendition!

  • There are actually eight verses to the song. You can probably find them in a web search on "Elizabeth LaPrelle". It's on her "Rain & Snow" album.

  • Oh really? I'll go ahead and look them up, thanks. :)

  • You're welcome. As to the date, nobody's sure about details of the writing but it's believed that the song came to America during a wave of emmigration in 1749, with lyrics updated a hundred years later. So it would have been before that. You did a good job singing it!

  • :) Thank you very much. As soon as I get the time I'll sing it again with all of the verses.

  • Beautifully sung. Thanks.

  • ^_^ I appreciate it, thank you!

  • i love this song very nice version!!

  • :D Thanks a lot, glad you liked it!
