While I have to admit the scene between Frollo and Esmeralda is a really touching and beautiful scene, it doesn't really make much sense that he would kill someone where she would never for any reason at all go near to and then blame her for it just because it's her dagger. When he stabbed Pheobus in the book, Esmeralda was in the scene, so she was easily blamed. Here, it just doesn't make sense.

He just wanted her because she's beautiful, he wanted to kill her because he thought that if he was lustful he was gonna go to hell, so his thought was either have Esme or kill her and no one else have her. it's definately obsession, not a hint of love in that guy.
