When I was about 11 my lil brother taught me the racist version of the song and its another one of those things that as a black person I should have been offended but back then we sung it a lot too.
@joho804 Pity there's such a thing. I don't know that version -nor wanna know. Daniel Boone is a great remembrance of my childhood and in no way would like to change it.
This has got to be the gayest theme song I've ever heard in my life. A bunch of guys singing your praise? Daniel Boone was a man? A BEEEEEEEIG man? Seriously? WOW.
@chemistryizcool this show came on the tv yesterday and during the opening intro song my mom piped in saying the bear was bigger so he ran like a nigger up a tree :D
Mary Boone Bryan is my great grandma, she was the sister of Daniel Boone she married William Bryan and Daniel married Rebecaa Bryan. (Played by Patrica Blair) The DAR has a monment erected to her and her leadership of the women in the Siege of Bryans fort. Daniel was about 5'7" or 5'8" but he was man. Nice to remember him.
@progressiverebel Wow!,it must be great to have such History in your family.I was reading about Kit Carson just yesterday and he was about 5ft. 6ins., nice to know that you don`t have to be tall to be a hero.
@serberious .... Many Americans have well known relatives thanks to Holloywood. Davy Crocketts father was at the Battle of Kings Mountain and lots of the family was there Check out your own people, I suspect that your a direct descendant of Brian Boru. My Irish people are the Beatties of Kilashandrae and the Cairnes family of the Battle of the Boyne. Even John Wayne is my 9th cousin. Kit Carson was a small man but a great one. Read George Macdonal Frazier. Read Flashman and the Redskins.!
@progressiverebel Great information! According to Wikipedia, Daniel Boone also never wore a coonskin cap! Heh! But I'm certain that the TV series is true to the spirit of the history of Daniel Boone, if not the letter, and that's the most important thing. Thanks for sharing.
My favorite version of the theme; I plan to start rewatching this show that I've not seen in over 40 years. I've a hankering to see this frontier drama again after all this time. And thanks also to Daryn Hinton, Darby's sister, for her prolific uploads of the show, among others. I can see why Fess Parker was like a real dad to you guys! I didn't like the later jazzed up theme but it was still an excellent show and I found uploads of the last episode to be particularly touching. Good job to all!

Hey, smexyrobby, that wasn't funny when I first heard it (sometime about 1966) and it isn't funny now. The "Daniel Boone" tv episodes had story lines and characters that depicted blacks and natives in positive roles--at a time in America when this wasn't the norm. In this respect, "Daniel Boone" was a true pioneer.
I hate todays society thats not even the real song its censored because the whole racial tension..... it goes "Daniel boone was a man, he's a biiiiig man......, but the bear was bigger, so he ran like a nigger, through the trees
Fess Parker was my great uncle and one of the most amazing people you could ever meet. Marcy and the family are doing well. I miss him but right before he died he smiled. He had a wonderful life and was always grateful for it. The family is still sending us bottles of wine for Christmas, but this time they forgot the rum cake. When I was younger and couldn't drink alcohol I loved eating that cake. It dripped with rum and made me feel so cool. I'm rambling. Love you, Fess! Thanks for everything!
Old Dan'l be rollin in his grave is knew how well we Americans are takin care of each other today. The frontier dangers have been replaced with the selfish teabagger mentality of everyone for himself.
I've had this song in my mind all day...weird. I must have been a real little girl when my family watched this. I was born in the mid 60's. Fess Parker just died this year, on my dad's birthday, March 18, 2010.
@missygirl521 Tell your dad he's got a good birthday. My girlfriend Rachel's birthday is March the 18th too. I remember this show and the theme song when I was a kid too. I was born in 1960 and I remember Daniel Boone used to come on TV on Thursday nights when I was little.
I remember this! We used to sing this when we were kids, but we had different words. Our version went, "Daniel Boone was a man, was a BIG man...but the bear was bigger so he ran like a nigger through the woods."

i'm very sad. i was a kid in the 60's and loved this show.he was my hero as a kid along with james west robert conrad.60's were great shows for kids.thanks fess, rip.
how many episodes of daniel boone from third season didn't have the this picture made under the jurresdiction of IATSE affilliated with afl-cio in closing credits did they have that in the third season when did they have it again in what season
Actually, the closing credits in this clip were used from 1966 until the end of Daniel Boone's run in 1970, b/c in the 1965-66 season, the closing credits were shown over shots of the river and forests in color.
Also, the 1965-66 season used a slightly revised version of the vocal-singing closing theme tune.
this is 1966 season the 1965 season has outdoor shot in closing credits.
