To all who wanted to know where I got this dish from - it is made in China by a company known as "Sangli". They may use a different name now. They are still available in the USA - just google "parabolic cooker" and there will be dealers listed that have these. mine was a bargain at under $100, but I don't think you will get one for that now. Good luck with your solar cooking! Ken.
I live in the dominican republic shared island with haiti . We have sun 85% of the time . now its dec 3 2010 and is 82 degrees. the sun is brilliant. Do you think this stove would burn food too easily
@bernie018 - it will burn food in any country if done improperly. It's really no different than using a fying pan or a pot on a stove burner. The only real differenc is that it's not possible to "turn down" the heat and you have to keep adjustiing the dish position every 15 minutes to keep the sun at the right position under the cooking pot. Ken.
@datzfast - no, never have tried that. The unit is quite large and it would require an equally large south-facing window, which I don't have. Also, it could be dangerous. The focal lenght on this unit is long and if you aim the dish in wrong direction, it would set fire to the drapes or other objects - this happened to me outside. I spun it out of the way not realizing that eventually it would end up focused on the cedar trees. Lucky they weren't dead, as they were charred and would have burned.
Nice cookers you made. It would be nice if they made pot and pans that told you the temperatures. I just bought a parabolic mirror dish that I will use as a cooker. And I do know a hand held remote temperature device, that works great.
Perogy or perogie (I am unsure of how to spell it) are a potato envelope with a cheese filling. They are made by Ukrainian folks (and possibly others) and are very good - especially with fried onions! Ken.

@bernie018 - solar ovens don't fry foods, so not really an option.

Do you have a commercial unit, or a home-built one? A picture would help to see what it is that you are using. Ken
