NEXT TIME YOU DO A "FULL TEARDOWN HOW-TO" VIDEO, MAKE SURE YOU DO JUST THAT, AND DON'T DO IT AS AN AFTER THOUGHT! WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER THAN JUST MAKING REFERENCE TO THE THREE BOLT JACKET SCREWS. ALSO, YOU SHOULD KNOW THE SIZE OF YOUR HARDWARE AND THE SIZE OF THE DRIVER NEEDED.
@2:45 I cannot get the stop out after removing the allen screw. I have a new sd and there are two long bolts that keep the stop from being wiggled out. Do they have to be taken out? Also I found a small set screw loose in my foregrip I think its from the tip near the bottom of the front site. If I set that screw I cant screw the suppressor down. WTF is up with this sd?
@pipersmitty that was the bolt stop... STill cannot remove it- those two long screws are in the way- what are those, I dont see them on the earlier gsg's
hey thanks for the awesome vid man. i have few questions though, im having a hard time getting the cocking tube/front sight off my gsg. i dont know how big this difference is but at 5:20, you point to the three screws that must be removed in order to get the cocking tube off. the very first screw you point to, i have another screw off to the right of that one, so theres four altogether. do you know what the fourth screw is? and im just not sure what else could be holding that cocking tube on.
Thanks very much for posting this, I needed to replace my barrel and couldn't find instructions on how to do this. Thanks to your vid, I can not only do that but I am also going to get the screw upgrade kit from rrages! Cheers! M2
"Honestly" I don't have the balls to do this to my gun....seriously looks like a surgery precedure on a lovely gun! What if I screw it up? I mean you can always run a sponge cord through the barrel for cleaning, why go all the way with complications?
@Chassidoftherebbe the screws that come with the gun wear loose over time, if you dont replace them with better ones or at least tear it down and re-tighten them every 8000 rounds or so the gun could have a serious malfunction.
I would say big NO unless you're dealing with severe corrosion and there are no plastic/polymer components. Maybe for cleaning gunk out of an old barrel or components of a parts kit.
hey thx for the vid bro, i would have never been able to do this the right way on my own.....to bad i was using some winchester break powder blast gun cleaner to clean though cause i melted the titanium finish right off the gun : (
Glad you made it through the upgrade--way to go! You might think about refinishing your SD with some matte black Duracoat for a more durable finish. Most smiths can do it or you can give it a whirl provided you prep the surfaces well.
I see a difference between the colors of your GSG-5 and mine. i have the same model but the frame is a bluish color in most light colors. Whats with that?!
I was in the process of upgrading my GSG-5 with this very screw set while refinishing the rifle and low and behold, the problem I was trying to prevent had already happened! The bolt jacket screws had loosened and the jacket cracked at the front... no wonder I was having so many firing/ejecting problems recently. Great vid bud, I'll shoot you some picks of the refinished product in desert digital camo.
I didn't film that simply because my upgraded bolt jacket screws are in SO tight (torqued them down and loctited them) that I think I might never get them installed that good again. The original screws were self tapping, so the more times you take those screws out, the less tight you will be able to get them.
The procedure for removal is as follows: Remove the bolt carrier, and strip the bolt per the video. If upgrading the bolt jacket screws, take one out at a time and replace accordingly.
Thanks!! I think Loctite on any of the assembly screws is just insurance--use your personal judgement. Those screws are the only three that I used it on.

Hey nice vid. Have they fixed anything on the charging handle? I remember it was peening from people doing the slap to charge the rifle.

I F**ked up!! The "Mystery spring" dropped out and I ran it over with my chair. You know where I can get another "Mystery spring"? Please help!!

My gun has 4 pins that hold the receiver together not 3. You should remind people not to lose the locking washer for the screw on the bolt stop.
