  • and also can it still operate when the MacBook is closed?

  • Can that be used for Thunderbolt Macs?

  • @spartan117ism yep and yep

  • mate! thanks for ur help!!

  • Normally i use the external display port to extend the screen...

Go to the arrangement tab in the disp pref... then you can set where you want it to extend from and which is the main screen..

Bloody brilliant if you ask me. I use a 24"LED and dump all by background apps there and with a glance i can see every thing... finder windows, utorrent, iTunes...

and when you want to watch a movie just drag the movie into the secondary screen and click the full screen and Tada! it's on a large screen!

  • the background thig is that your descktop is enlarged, think about it like this if you put the screen to the right of an i mac it´d just be like another part of your screen.

  • Fail! Haha!!!

  • Helpful video dude. I got stuck at that Snow Leopard background screen and this solved my problems. Thanks!

  • thnx dude, i also having that kind of problem

  • wat an idiot LOL, it was on dual screening initially

  • Hey Dave, is your monitor digital or analog? I tried connecting mine which is also VGA but it doesn't work :(

  • is that the 13" model? please answer. and for any of you smart people. i am looking at buying the 2010 13" model of the mac book pro. it has 250 gig hd and DDR3 ( no idea what that means) 320m graphics and 4 gig of ram? its got the core 2 duo... would i be able to play video games such as WoW. on good or higher graphics with nice flow of FPS? will this computer be futur proof and not have to upgrade in 1 years time? please reply. sorry if i didnt make any sence.

  • @RockHardKidneyStone I thing you should buy. DDR3 is referred to memory. It's better buying the new latest macbook pro. It has faster memory, a new ''thunderbolt'' port and some more better features.

  • @RockHardKidneyStone i would definitely wait. the new macbook pros came out and they have i3 and i5's in them. so, they are 20 times faster.

  • This was so painful to watch

  • when it was showing the snow leopard wallpaper you're supposed to be able move stuff from one monitor to the other, like having two monitors for one computer. You can pass the arrow between the two monitors.

  • Can you close your mac book when you attach it to your monitor?

  • @burnit01 Yes.

  • @burnit01 yes

  • I bought a mini display to hdmi calbe, so I can connect it to my tv,

but I have some adapters, hdmi -> dvi and dvi ->vga,

is this possible to connect al in one so I can connect it to my pc ass wel, becuase I tried and doesn't really seem to work, but I think it should.

    any ideas? will this work?

  • Your accents really sexy

  • ur a moron

  • i wish i could go to ireland.....

  • YES!!, There SHOULD be an easier way to do it, like just plug the thing and done, but still it's awesome!

  • Mac OS X is the best OS. Can't compare with stupid Win 7 witch is same as Win Vista. Anyway Microsoft loosing the game guys.

  • @ctenochaetus My god are you clueless if you think 7 is the same as Vista. My god.

  • i ordered one off anthoer site will it work because it dosent screw in all the way

  • You have to move the cursor over to the the monitor.

  • apple did make it easy, as soon as you plugged in the adapter, the macbook configured it's self to export another "screen" or another set of pixels to the monitor being plugged in, the monitor flickered, saved settings, sent out a signal back to the macbook telling it's resolution, then the macbook re-configured to that resolution...

In other words, you did NOT have to open properties, just to check, drag a open folder/ file over to the next screen; simple.

on a pc, it's a pain in the arse!!!

  • is he crazy?

  • asshole

  • Minidisplay to DVI is wayy better!

  • Was hat der drauf ?

    -Akulaufzeit 24 Stunden

    -Gewicht unter 1 Kg

    -HD-Video Schnittunterstützung

-Festplatten und Arbeitsspeicherwechsel von der Unterseite für den Anwender möglich

  • lol

    fabeocosta +1 :)))

  • affffffffffffff... u are so dumb.. hahahaha

  • @fabeocosta

hey it helped me set mine up...thanks Lack78!

  • its on extended screen. you have to duplicate

  • When you initially plugged in the monitor, it set up the other monitor as an extended display by default... If you would have moved your mouse to the edge of the screen it would have continued on to the Dell. If mirroring is off, you can set each monitor to it's native resolution. I have my iMac hooked up to my 32" HDTV via HDMI and have mirroring on as I use it as the primary monitor at times. If you do that, I would recommend setting the resolution to the native of the Dell.

  • hey man quick tip i wanted to share,

you know you could have dual displays running right?

you dont have to mirror anything, i have a a mbp in desktop mode ( lid closed ) connected to a 23 in. monitor and use it as a desktop when i dont travel.

you could use dual displays or just desktop mode. and it will use your monitors full resoloution.

  • It's really pathetic that after paying so much for a notebook, you still need to purchase an adapter to have VGA out. VGA "just works" with most notebooks. If you get what I mean.

  • A VGA port won't fit. The MacBooks are too thin and there's nowhere to fit it on the Logic Board or on the outside of the case.

  • Then include an adapter, don't make the consumer pay for it our of their own pocket. VGA support should be a standard feature, out of the box, especially with the price you pay for them.

  • I actually have to agree on this point. I had a Dell vostro and it came with a vga adaptor. thats computer cost $320. The macbook pro cost $1149.

  • I mean, there's nothing wrong with DisplayPort, but at this point in time, almost no existing monitors support it. It seems more like Apple is using that to their advantage to drive adapter sales than making sure the consumer can do what they need to.

  • @LACK78 `````you had Dell that cost $320 but you running stupid windows on it and you have so many problems ... drivers, registry, virus, stability, you have to do a format once a 6 months... well I pay 1149 and the only thing I have to do is to shut down my MAC.

  • @TokyoYuri mini hdmi could fit

  • snipurl com/s6lvy

monoprice is obviously not an option for dave, but you don't have to drop $30 on an adapter either. a lot of laptops are dropping VGA in favor of displayport as well, and a lot of desktop video cards dropped VGA in favor of DVI ages ago.

  • Yes, but my desktop video cards all came with DVI to VGA adapters, as well as S-Video to Components and such. These types of things should include adapters to begin with.

  • right, but you'd be hard pressed to find any laptop that includes displayport->VGA adapters.

  • And how many laptops do you know at the moment that are actually using DisplayPort to begin with? LACK78 himself stated that one of his other laptops came with an appropriate adapter for using VGA from DVI I believe. Why can't Apple afford its users the same benefits?

  • Apple with Dell is an abomination. ;)

  • On the monitors control panel, do not select 'mirror display' drag the tiny, white menubar on the top of the blue desktop rectangle over to the larger Dell blue rectangle and then you can use the Dell monitor as your primary screen at its native resolution. Use the Macbook Pro screen for things you don't use much but always have open (e.g. iChat etc) or just don't use it at all. Either way, you would be limited to 1280x800

  • Do extended display, and set the external monitor as your main monitor, then set the resolution of the two displays at their native resolutions. To make your external display your main one, go to "Arrangement", then uncheck "Mirror Displays", then drag the blue Menubar from the MacBook's display to the external display. Good luck! :)

  • If you don't select Mirror display. Then you can use that other monitor as a second one. Like you can drag stuff across to the second monitor. So basically in-larging your monitor. =D

  • you could always use the other display as an extended display, like you had before you mirrored it, you can drag windows onto your extended display then for more workspace!

  • what do you think of the hp touchsmart

  • ....and you can use ur macbook pro as a cpu...just attach a mouse and keyboard....close the lid(it'll go to standby).....push any button on mouse or keyboard..boom..the macbook pro will then only output signal to ur external display @ full gpu strength...and u can hide or even mount ur mcbk pro like a cpu.....

    :-)))

  • Did you just shorten "computer" to "cpu?" And can't you use a macbook as a computer without an external monitor?

  • The CPU is a component. Its tiny.

  • For a MacBook make sure you get the mini-display port version (more expensive) and not the mini-dvi one. They are different connectors and cost different too.

  • also u dont need mirror display, just drag the task bar from one blue screen to the other to make the monitor your primary display, this is done in arrangement!! any other q's just ask!!

  • great! i did same thing with an external ASUS monitor: works perfectly!

  • banana!

  • 2nd

  • first!
