Wow, as a teenage boy growing up, I always had a crush on Noah Taylor. Its so weird seeing him grown up in all of his great indie films! I was so shocked seeing him in Vanilla Sky.
In 1987 when this came out I was so irrate at this scene, and so conflicted. The female population my age were similarly torn between Noah Taylor and Ben Mendelsohn and I think we concluded that they are equally talented and equally hot. It must have driven them mad for years being constantly compared to each other. They just exploded into our collective consciousness with this movie and at a very impressionable age for at least myself. My first two crushes(!)Confused me for years. Still does.
Ben Mendelsohn has taken better care of himself than Noah Taylor. Noah just needs a bit more TLC and an Oscar for his role in the movie "Max" while they're at it. I don't even remember the "Max" (not Mad Max) screening in Australia. If it was released I would have bought every ticket going.

Let's look at Noah Taylor as Helfgott in "Shine". As far as I'm aware, he never even got a mention from Geoffrey Rush in his Oscar acceptance speech.
