Really annoys me when I hear people saying how Tritons and Astro headsets are "second to none", when I would consider them entry level headphones, especially as they were built for consoles with horrible audio quality in the first place. Decent sound card, decent non-usb preamp and a pair of £350 headphones on a PC still wouldn't be considered "second to none" and at that point you're spending about £500 on nothing but audio.

if you want to go completely perfect quality, get a decent ribbon mic like a m160. hyper or super cardiod as well. that way, you dont have to reduce as much background noise as the mic just won't pick it up as it isn't within its pickup range. then get some kind of 'di box' usually used for recording instruments straight into a computer, its like a mini recording desk of sorts. that way, you can stray away from horrible usb and go xlr.

if you think those headphones are 2nd to none, you know nothing about sound, get your self a real pair of AKG K702's and then you'll know what sound is. You don't need the mic to cut off everything below 200Hz 'cause it's really easy to do manually, your wasting your money on a feature like that. also that's not called a spider it's called a "Shock Mount" if the Mic was that cheap try a Rode mic to match your boom, it'll be indescribably better than what you have. Your Mic is USB? *facepalm*

Anyone that is into music recording totally gets what Ken is saying in this video. Pop Filters, Reflections Filters, Shock/Spider Mounts and Good Mics are essential to a good recording. Anything less and you will sound amateur.

i use a simple 10 pound headset, with the xbox headset's pop filter. i place the microphone next to my face, and it works great... yeah, you can hear when i click my mouse or type something, but its just some settings to clear that out...
