  • A song for forever.

  • Sometimes, I get sad because I'm not Stanley Clarke.

  • This was such a awesome album

  • Now I remember ...somewhere in my bookshelf I have copy of this original vinyl.

Gotta dig it up ,great stuff !!!

  • so glad I can share tis with my son & daughter, who turned me on to youtube. Thanks Stanley!

  • can you imagine.......summer in Atl, riding down the expressway 2m in a convertible TR6, top down, clothes coming off....yes I married him. this song & Stanley Clarke will always have a special place in my history. to all other comments, YES THIS WAS A AMAZING TIME POLITICALLY & ARTISTICALLY.

  • when i was 16 I bought the album. I was on the bus with my purchase and someone asked me what album I bought, I smiled and said school days by Stanley Clarke. He seemed surprised that a teenager would be into Stanley Clarke

    Great Album!

  • Stanley was a musical prodigy at Philly's Roxborough High School and who would have known he would become our generation's premier bassist emeritus. He has played the bass like a lead guitar and pulled it off!.IHe has done it ALL with the bass..classical, jazz, rock, soundtracks, blues,.The only knock is he cannot sing.. but he still tries.. Stanley is the man!!

  • Cool trivia. The keyboard/synth player on this, David Sancious, was the original keyboardist for Bruce Springsteens's original E Street Band. He is featured on Bruce's first two albums, and the occasional track on Born to Run. Check out his solo recordings.

  • One of the all time greatest classics in music. So many wonderful memories there. An incredible period in the time of music.

  • u know im 19, but like i love this music, i hate to say it but i wish i was born back in the 70s so i can hear this when it was new

i may be an old dude now, but hey! at least ill never get tired of jamming to the only school of music good enough to get me off my walker :)

  • I bought this album new when it was first released mainly for the tune The Dancer. A beautful and haunting beat and melody. I love the way it starts and the whistle and strings are a cool addition to the song. Stanley Clarke-piano,piccolo bass-electricbass ,Gerry Brown-drums , David Sancious-organ-mini moog, Milton Holland-percussion, Ray Gomez-rhythm & electric guitar. I love when Ray finishes this song with that great solo.

  • Stanley is a great bassplayer. I listen to his music every time I want to feel good. I heard of him when I was listening to Chick Corea, a musician I admire. Keep on playing Stanley

  • If you have never seen Stanley Clarke play Live, you are in for a Treat! He always puts on Great Show!! He and other Bass players, got me playing da Bass!! Stan is the Man!!

  • brought this on import back in the day on the advice of my good friend Kim who passed at the age of 24 still miss him and his advice i'm 54 as he would be now. still love it, i'm trying to get my youngest son into him its a struggle but I'll get there.thanks for the memory.

  • very good miouzik

  • This song is amazing, its such a samba drum groove.... I love the keyboards!

  • um, you're listening to stanley clarke, and saying skill is nugatory? I guess that's like me, when i say i love swiss cheese, who cares about the holes?

  • Yeah, love Stanley and George Duke. As a drummer, my first tune to learn on traps was "Louie, Louie"...

  • the most Brazilian of his tunes.

  • when I was a kid in the 80's my dad played this album for me. I would listen to this track over and over with my eyes closed imagining my own videos. Hah. Truly great song that you can feel the passion.

  • What a great memory. Saw Stan in 79 ! Vicious..

  • ESPETACULAR!

  • they just don't jam like this no more; in order to make this classic stuff, superb...with the utmost passion.clarke rocks!!!!

  • USED TO BLAST THIS IN COLLEGE (MY SCHOOL DAZE)

  • I heard this song for the first time on an old cassette tape from my father!! couldn't put it away after hearing it :) gooood music!!

  • Chillidog i agree. i've got thousands of albums in storage that i can;t seem to let go. Lots of stanley. that music also shaped me too. always made the hair my neck stand up....you know?

  • Hey IMChilidog...Music is the best berometer of what is in our heart.....

  • A local high end stereo shop had this in their demo stack for testing speakers ,that day was considering the merits of some ADS book shelfs, recall Airto 's percussion & Stanley's ,the lead etc.lines came through clear & with punch. nice

  • Not sure by what you mean by lineal? Explain!

  • am I wrong or are you right? This is not the song "the dancer", this is "Life is just a game" from the same album "Schooldays" I think I've done my lessons well.

  • No, this is The Dancer

  • @Gazelle1934 studia gazelle, studia

  • If I'm understanding your post, this song is called the "Dancer" it's a Brazilian inspired piece. I've been listening to it since 1976 when I purchased the ablum...lol. You were right at first.

  • WITLOCK, same here, my stepmom bought this LP for me cause she was sick of hearing Van Halen pumpin'out

of my room. musta' been '78 or '79.

  • My Twin cousin B& B and loved this album..When a friend of ours layed the album on the bed and it fell up against the heater and warped it..Brett said I will F him up LOL You had to be there I guess LOL But that was over 30 years ago ...man i am really old LOL .

  • one really had to pick and choose in the 70s to find quality artists - a lot of folks had to work in the disco vein because that's all the market was pushing at that point, so there were some seminal dance tracks that almost transcend the genre - and Jazz-Rock Fusion was a blessed relief during those years, almost spiritual in its joyous energy - brings it all back again to hear it here

  • Me and my homeboy used to jam this back in my college days. Still sounds great!

  • How can we get more young girls in their 20's now to like this kind of music? I feel isolated sometimes...

  • I always wonder the same thing because I'd like to date a girl within my age range who loves this kind music.

  • Don't feel bad I'm 46 and I purchased this album when it came out in 1976 at age 13and I've not gotten any ladies to like this music yet...LOL. If you do the math that's been 34 years....LOL.

You may have to find a lady musician girlfriend, then maybe? .LOL.

  • Well I'm actually female in 20's, when I said what I said in past post, I meant finding another female friend to share this joy. But I can understand guy's point of veiw as well. There are so many amazing music in jazz/fusion world which musicians composed wonderful love related tunes for their laides etc... and those wonderful music hardly ever get listened by female which is sad.

  • Sorry for the mix up, but thank you for sending the post. The Jazz/Rock or "fusion" era was a great time for music. All the artist were composing and exploring so freely.

  • oh no! there's no need to be sorry at all. :D

You're lucky that you lived through 70's. But hey, as long as we stay open minded, there are good music around now as well right? Have you checked S.M.V by Stanley, Marcus and Victor? Awesome album!

  • I've been the biggest fan of Stanley Clarke since the around 74 when older brother turned me on Jazz/Rock so yes I'm very aware of SMV. What a great trio of three generations of bass. I saw both thier tours (08 & 09) here in DC. Are you a big fan of the Jazz/Fusion stuff of the 70's. The music industry killed Fusion by watering it down by over saturating the market with to many bands that weren't the master artist or bands.

  • Yes, what you are saying is probably true. But hey, I try to stay open minded to classic, jazz, fusion, instrumental/vocal rock, ambient, world music etc. and I never run out of music to listen! There's always something to discover for and some of those old masters are still young in heart and keep producing amazing records now! Also I am grateful for 21st century. Internet brought us fans from all around the world together! Cheers for now. :o)

  • Hi, I'm a 53 year old female, and I've been into Stanley Clarke, Return to Forever, Weather Report, etc. for quite some time. If you get the chance, check out Return to Forever's album, "Romantic Warrior". Here, you will hear Stanley at his best.

  • Yeah, thanks very much. I've had the album since it first came out in 76" as well as all their music. I think some of Stanley's best work as a band member.

  • @2nubbie

Indeed. The title track is required listening ;)

  • @2nubbie Amazing, had them both on Vinyl

  • @2nubbie . Oh Yes Romantic Warrior was there best album. I jam it in my mp3 player all the time ! Good stuff !

  • It is interesting to see all the comments about Stanley Clarke and this seminal album and how it influenced so many when they were young. I too can say that in the throes of the disturbingly bland 70's I found solace in his music along with Zappa, Corea, DiMeola, and other, also the incomparable Jeff Beck. They provided so much influence that it is a joy to relive his music, ah the joy!

  • It is amazing that I am reading how many people heard this album at a young age and it had a profound impact on them. I too heard this for the first time at 17 and have been enjoying it for the last 30 years!

  • My homie at the time when fusion was on point!!!!!!! Damn, it still makes me smile and gets the head bopping!

  • This remind me of my brother. He died this summer. Only five yrs older than me. He has tons of vinyl - including this. I will buy it all from my nephew. Cant wait to open these boxes with all this great vinyl. I know my brother would have wanted me to have it. This kind of music made me the way I am - Music was my first love - and it will be my last. RIP

  • @IMChilidog Play all those records - it makes your brother live forever!

  • @popliphaha :)

  • @IMChilidog .....and wherever he is, he'll be groovin' with you!

  • @IMChilidog . I hear you man my brother introduced me to this when I was young too ! I do have it on vinyl also. I'm like you music is my first love and last love too ! Yes RIP brother !

  • @IMChilidog sorry bro xxxx all the best

  • @IMChilidog Lost my brother in '79. Music keeps us connected.

  • @IMChilidog

    Nice !

May he be Resting in Peace !

  • All this album it's perfect!

  • guys dig Passport / Iguacu album. Praia Lemme is GAS .

  • I still have my album. Mint condition. YEOW.

  • Oh man. I remember listening to this as a 16 year old and totally falling in love with it. And at the same time not having a clue who Stanley Clarke was or that he was the one who put this out. Then 2 years later when I joined the Air Force, my boy DAMEN OWENS (where you at man?) played the album. It was ironic cause we played School Days 100 times before we listened to this cut. I wound up wearin the whole album out! lol

  • this is soo dope!

  • I never liked the music in the charts when I was growing up; my escape routes were bebop and hardcore punk. I also listened to hell of a lot of other stuff, some of it 'fusion', because I thought it would be good for me as a player. Much of it, such as Al DiMeola, I now regret.

Having said that, this is good stuff. Stanley was and is a hell of a player but he could also compose, which some of his bandmates couldn't do. Thanks for posting it.

  • OMG.....Love Stanley Clarke - listened to him in the 70's!!

  • David Sancious' playing on this is top notch, and Gerry Brown's drummer is great.

  • Who cares about skill anyway.

I like music which sounds good 8)~

  • i wonder who's the most skilled, clarke or jaco pastorius

  • They were friends, actually. Both brilliant in their own style, to be sure...

  • @Don94Pele

It does not matter!!! They are two of the finest!!!!

  • @Don94Pele

It does not matter!!! They are two of the finest!!!!

Amen!!!! From Philly myself, southwest, 50th and Woodland!!!!

  • "F" Key is in the right place?, or Stanley is "learning" at School days?

  • lord, when the guitar 'laughed,' i lost it the first time i heard it! Stanley Clarke ain't no joke!

  • Yes, RAY GOMEZ on ELECTRIC GUITAR

    and the incomparable

DAVID SANCIOUS on those CRAZY KEYBOARDS and that FREAKING MINI-MOOG!!!!!

  • Stanley is so Great !!!

I had this record years. Loved it then and stil do now. Got it on CD now.Great sound !!!

  • I'll never forget: a high school party. People were partying to the latest and greatest on the radio... until I broke this tune out on the turn table. No one knew what this music was! But everyone wanted to know who it was by the end of the night. It became a hit to dance to after that. Great post!

  • Good stuff. I use to listen to this back in the second grade on my dad's turntable when I was board with no friends! lol This music use to take me to another place and still does!

  • RAY GOMEZ ON GUITAR!!

    Beautiful stuff !

    Peace !

  • im bored on cam

    this video was good 4H

  • An essential album for young jazz, fusion enthusiasts like myself in the 80's.

    Thanks Stanley.

  • this songs makes me feel like im in a dream trippin out

  • I love this tune,Stanley Clarke is fantastic, there is always a totaly differnt mood style and sounds for all his songs, pure awesomeness.

  • Makes me proud to be a Philadelphian! Stanley Clarke is the gold standard. I saw him 30 yrs ago in Philly and about 10yrs ago in New Orleans. His stuff just doesn't dry up. Additionally, he always plays with the best musicians...Lenny White, Billy Cobham, Al Dimeola, Chick Correa, etc.

  • This track was featured on a test tape brought by "the Swedish car stereo institute"

Used for measuring car audio systems in the

80 tees. Both SAAB and VOLVO used this tape before Compact Disc entered the stage.

  • do you have "you/me together" from the "rocks, pebbles and sand album?" i never heard this, but i like it alot. thanks for the post. and i also just have a comment for the no video...youtube has reconnected me with music i have not heard since i was a child...so what there is no video, u wanna watch videos, go to mtv.....keep up the good work, crustybrown!

  • That comment was meant for the idiot GunnarVogatis who spoke shit about there not being a video, i don't think he realises that MTV wasn't about when this came out and is not about the video anyway, can he not appreciate the music for itself.

    Thanks for putting this up

  • So happy to hear this! A favourite of my dad who was a jazz guitarist and who is no longer here. Love it.

  • You had such an swesome dad! ;)

  • when i was a small boi, my dad rocked this album on his turn table and i remember it very well. it was all through the 80's. the tracks that i liked the best were "hot fun", "quiet afternoon" and "life is just a game" but i do remember this song too! fusion is such a cool genre of music! ^_^

  • One of all-time favorite album. The first time I heard this stuff I couldn't believe it.

    Stanley and crew was on.

  • Yeah I love this funkjazz and I have also my old LP´s packed down somewhere....should start bying all these albums on CD now. Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, George Duke, Herbie Hankock, AlDi Meola, Jaco Pastoriuos and the rest of the old jazzfunk school

  • To The Two Ignorant People (I am Quite Ignorant but not as much) There Is No Video For it, Just Sit and Appreciate Good Music..

  • This album was the SHIT!! Philly representin' Roxborough High, Stanley is the reason I got into progressive jazz with this album and his prior work with Return To Forever. Gotta Luv it!!

  • His best off School Days. This cut got me into Stanley in a big way. It was the first time I heard "funky" orchestration. Fuckin' brilliant!!!

  • thanks for letting me hear this...........good to hear people still have there copies....mine though was lent out to friend and never got it back..boo.hoo

  • Shut it you mug!!

  • Is that new age music?

  • fusion

  • new age sux this is DA jazzFUNK

  • I bought this as a very expensive vinyl import into the UK in 1976/77. LOVE IT STILL. Have it on CD as well, my 26 yr old daughter loves it too. It goes on and on, generation after generation, like all great art.. Thanks, Stanley!

  • well posted! haven't heard this one in ages either!

    brilliant album too....

  • I haven't heard this since I packed my LPs away 20 years ago. This brings back such a flood of memories and deja vu. Thanks! Stanley was my first real concert in like 79 Norfolk Virginia.
