OMG.this is, what I must see Live onetime in my life. I love tornadoes, but here in Euro, thats something like small wind for u. amazing, great shot. omg
the width and motion of a tornado does not determine it's strength and the strength of a tornado can vary. take for instance the May 3, 1999 tornado in Moore, Ok. as it moved through Chikasha it produced F3 damage but as it moved into Newcastle and Bridge Creek it produced sporatic F4 damage. but for a very narrow swath in the town of Moore it produced F5 damage. the intensity is determined on the amount and type of damage it does.
@psydrui23 But width I'd think would still factor into how much damage there is. You'd probably have more damage from a mile wide tornado than one of the really thin ones. More wide spread damage anyway,
"i created this twister by farting, exhaling and driving my vehicle."
hence, by eliminating some of those things, i can prevent such twisters from occuring.
.....oh, and lets not forget the hugely significant reduction of my carbonfootprint by purchasing carbonoffsets from algore's company (and paying more taxes).
algorians, your time has come as the people have become effectively conditioned to do your bidding.
"Ours is the only true god!" exclaimed the bigotts. "Amen!" chimed in the neoconmen.
"Our god has given us this planet to do as we please. So climate change is just a myth".
Then the scientists showed them melting glaciers & ice. The bigotts & neoconmen hemmed & hawed for a while & suddenly exclaimed "All that is real but just natural climate cycle, not man made. Yeah, that's the ticket". Then they got into their giant trucks (24 gallons/mile) & drove off - a cliff.
Just to add, I've been wanting to be a storm chaser since I was 6 years old. Then the movie Twister came out, I still watchit frequently to this day. I used to draw them all the time. This is some intense footage!
Yes it does. Usually though the strong rotation up high prevents from rain falling all the time. That's why you see a lot of hail with tornados with no rain. If there is rain and it's a strong twister, it could be rain wrapped and you won't be able to see it.
It probably depends upon how you define a "storm", but there ARE relatively rain-free thunderstorms! These are called "dry thunderstorms", and develop in environments with a very dry low-level atmosphere that results in rain produced by the storm to evaporate before it reaches the ground. These types of storms are quite common in the western U.S. in summer, and they can be the source of many wildfires. There are also LP (low-precipitation) supercells that produce little in the way of rain.
In a storm such as the one that produced this tornado, the rain and hail often fall before the tornado (assuming you are not moving). In supercells, the updraft (where a mesocyclonic tornado develops) is located upshear (i.e. usually to the southwest this time of year in this part of the country) of the main heavy rain and hail. There often is large hail that falls around the tornado, though this varies from storm to storm (and time to time). Some storms do produce blinding rain near the tor.
Front page of Yahoo News this morning with this twister, great job guys and as always awesome footage. Chasing in good old Indiana today I am sure. Keep up the great work and as always stay safe
zoom in... zoom out... zoom in... zoom out - really could have done less only for the fact that it made me sick to watch - I love tornado footage though, awesome vantage points here!
Not always. The size of the tornado means nothing in terms to how it's rated on the Fujita scale. It may be big, but it's scale is determined by how fast the winds are. For now, all I can tell is that it's a wedge tornado.
It's not really a wedge tornado. It was relatively large, but that doesn't make it a wedge. "Wedge" tornadoes are those that are wider than they are tall. In this case, many chasers were close to the tornado, so it looked very wide. The tornado was a truncated cone that transitioned to a barrel.
Tornado was rated as an EF2. Luckily, it dissipated a mile or two before going over Aurora. It destroyed 1 house, de-railed a train, and did some damage to a pet food plant and local crops. As of now, it is believed that no one was killed.
Amazing footage!!! All the film from the 17th is bound to be! Cant wait for much more of it to come out. Just frustrated that I didnt get to catch this live!!!!

If I'm seeing what you're seeing, I think that's the same funnel, you just can't see the rest of it because of the debris cloud.

no no your right, it is the same, there probably isnt not enough dust and moisture in the funnel to make it visible tho

Jah77forever 2 years ago
Tornadoes form from swirling winds in a storm, and storms usually bring rain. Hail is more commonly reported during a tornado, though.
And if there is a rainless storm, call me.
RedAndGoldUSC 2 years ago
