Congrats on that...always intersting to go on the web and see people posting videos about their own "15 minutes" on all those old shows I remember watching when I was a kid.
Excellent...I used to LOVE this show back in the day. I am hoping the new "Temptation" remake is just as good as Sale of the Century was. Forget what the naysayers were saying, I'd be jumping for joy if I won $3,000!!!!!
Even when this was on, I thought it was kind of a throwback (less then jeopardy) show that was only filling a timeslot. I would be thinking "What the hell am I doing wasting my time watching this?" But hey, I was, so who is the bigger fool. See ya'
It ran for 6 years, so it def wasn't a placeholder...in fact, it far outlasted the other 2 game shows that premiered on NBC the same day (Hit Man and Just Men, both of which lasted a mere 13 weeks).
stretch, did you play the Winner's Board or that crappy Winner's Big Money Game? If it was the Board? How far did you go? Did you clear the board and win the $50,000 bonus?
funny you say that.A lot of people haven't gotten chosen to appear on a game show - let alone WIN! oN DAYS WHEN THINGS AREN'T GOING MY WAY - I think back to this day which was a one of a kind special day!
Actually this is more of 1986 or '87, b/c beginning in late '86/early '87, the third Instant Bargain was replaced with Instant Cash and the Fame Game Board became randomzied (in the same mold like Press Your Luck's gameboard).
I remember watching this, scrabble, super password and wheel of fortune on morning NBC and couldn't decide if i'd rather skip these and watch Family Feud and The Price is Right instead on CBS! AWESOME! congrats!
$3000 for christ sake...he carried on like he won $1,000,000 it was rigged..there was 3k in every box...they must think we are all stupid..but he does need a new fucking hair style
I mean, honestly...how can somebody be so cynical and so ignorant? Have you never heard of standards and practices? Does your brain have any sort of logistical capacity?
Wow...I have never seen such an idiotic comment in my short time on the site.
Yeah, there's cynics all over these GS clips who seem to think that everything must be staged...perhaps they're just jealous they can't get on a GS and win even a couple thousand like this guy did? LOL
when you do game shows you cant hang out with the host - so the only interaction Jim and I had was what you see in the show. The whole "just by closing my eyes" bit came to me just as you see - it wasn't prewritten or scripted. jim's responses were spontaneous also - but we sure shared a rhythem. The banter holds up even today

I, was on SALE OF THE CENTURY, also. Unfortunately, I didn't have anyone record it. I hope one day to tune in here and catch my video.

That's you? The video must be worth a million to you.

I was on SALE of the Century, also I wish I could see my video. I won a Fridge and 100 years supply of gift wrap.
anna9092 3 years ago
Well, anna9092, I hope you live long enough to enjoy your gift wrap to it's fullest.

Sale of the Century was still in production in Australia as late as 2004 - but it had been renamed "Sale of the New Century"
(funny but true)
stretch64 4 years ago
I heard it was actually renamed "Temptation".

Another interesting fact. When it was cancelled in 1989, it was cancelled on the same day as Super Password.

He must've played the Winner's Board, since the 83-87 music was still in place...the remixed stuff debuted @ the same time as the WBMG.
WhatsAYak 3 years ago
I think half of the music remained through the end of the run, it was used in rotation with the remixes.

Trust me, I've seen contestants celebrate over a lot less (anyone remember the 00-01 series Sex Wars where a team won $50 on one ep?)

pllllttt - I left the show $8,900 richer - you might want to switch from sour grapes to mangos

Where'd the other $5,900 come from?

being that this was 1987 and way past the Game Show scandles of the 50's - rest assured there was $3000 in only one box
